low but not ridiculously so

they need to finish ahead of 11 teams. they'll almost certainly finish up on:

columbus (-18)
montreal (-8)
philly (-5)
chicago (-13)
san jose (-16)
anaheim (-12)
arizona (-3)

they need to pass four of:

st louis (even)
detroit (+3)
ottawa (+4)
buffalo (+5)
washington (+4)

if they go 8-4-1 or 9-3-1 over their last 13 then i wouldn't bet against them finishing 12th last

Falling out of the Bedard lottery should be looked at as a extremely negative turn of events by anybody who cares about this team.

It doesn't matter if you support the recycled plan of a retool or want a partial or full rebuild.

If the Canucks lucked out and moved into the 1st spot, Bedard would kickstart and accelerate the team towards competing for a Stanley Cup a hell of a lot quicker than any plan management chose to employ.

They chose to go the route of a coaching change--winning as many games as possible late in the season and giving their top guys way too many minutes during garbage time.

Its a shame, really.

ODDS are that the Owners may misunderstand what ODDS are.

Maybe they heard it was a lottery, like 6/49 and think every Team has an even chance?

or are they just worried about the present team yet again and don't worry about the Franchise?

What else would explain this alleged misjudgement?

either they sincerely believe late season success can feed into early season success next season or they hired a guy who cares more about juicing his own record and reputation than doing what is best for the team

they really should have just gone with yeo after firing boudreau. that guy's only purpose is to lose games for hopeless teams

There is just zero long-term thinking right now.

Riding Demko into the ground, playing Pettersson 22+ minutes a night and averaging 27+ minutes from Hughes while having a cast of guys that require immediate observation to see if they can be factored into the plans next off-season play under 10 minutes is insane.

It's rudderless. You don't have to scratch your best players but the season is lost. Try giving guys like Podkolzin, Mcdonough or Kravtsov higher minutes. See what you got.

i don't have a lot of respect for tocchet (as a person or a coach) but i guess if i were being charitable i could argue the team has winning talent but a losing culture and the most important thing to do is change that culture as fast as possible and set a new bar and tocchet is following management direction and doing exactly that

i think the reality though is he just cares more about winning games now and next season so when they miss the playoffs again next year and allvin/rutherford are fired he has a better case for his next job

How do you create a winning culture by losing games..?

I was/am as much on team tank as anyone,but this is a weird take..Wouldn’t any new coach try his damndest to win games?

The organization certainly doesn't agree, which is truly the underlying problem.

Could they call up lousier prospects on Defence and upfront and let them play 20+ minutes-NO way

Could they call up their 0.871 save percentage "Tank" goalie and let him play out the string-NO way

Could they sit Quinn Hughes when he breaks his nose-NO way

Could they sit JT Miller when he has a chronic injury-NO way

Could they limit the ice time of their star players-NO way

Could the fall out of the running for a generational talent in the draft-YES way

Will they shake with consternation and despair when having done so-YES way

Will the fans, owners and managers, after executing on their short-sightedness, cry "what if" for generations to come- You Bett!

If the Canucks don’t screw this up, this could be one of the best tank days in a while, would pretty much negate the back to back wins

Yikes, that is the definition of short sightedness. Aqua needs droves of fans like you that buy into this late season surge to buy season tickets.

If all those things happen at the expense of seeing Podkolzin/Aman/Kravtsov/Silovs/Delia develop while exposing the stars to injury, and they miss out on Bedard Fantilli Carlsson Michkov Smith Reinbacher... Then I'd rather not see it.
