not surprised....the only history the leafs have is losing.

we'll show them how to do a succesful tank, and I promise you it wont take the Habs 7 years to get out of the first round. Hell, we've done that more often then the "superstar" led Leafs have this decade.

Heck of a series.:thumbu:

Congrats to Tampa on moving on and to the Leafs for showing they’re nobody anyone would look forward to facing.

Hopefully there are more series to come featuring two evenly matched opponents that are equally entertaining. They’re what make the NHL playoffs special.

Pretty funny but I feel the Leafs will be the only home team who loses these 5 game 7s

I think anyone not giving credit to the Leafs for a hard fought series is just a hater at this point. That was a hell of a series. Even though we went 7 vs. NYI last year, it, to me, didn't feel all that much in doubt. I did not expect TB to win tonight.

Leafs lost, but they definitely took the step forward they've been looking for. Matthews terrifies me. Marner had a big series. They've figured it out. TB just figured it out a long time ago, and has had a lot more practice.

It's ok, American fans only aggressively chant "USA USA USA"

Sure beats not making the playoffs at all !
I think your confused. In that time my 2 teams have made both the semi finals and won a Cup.

Don't worry, the pain will go away eventually. Only to reappear next spring for you unfortunately.

To be fair tampa didn’t look anywhere near as good as they did in previous 2 seasons…. This was the year for a team to dethrone tampa, and prob perfect year for leafs to do it.

That series was similar in that Tampa could have won it much faster if they wanted to. They basically threw away 2 games in both series they had won by blowing leads

Leafs Fans: Next year is your year.

I feel like we've seen Kyle Dubas growing as a GM every year. He's done a fantastic job of managing this team, acquiring tools, staying under the cap. He had a vision of the game when he came into the league. It was a wrong vision. And every year since then he's been growing an adjusting and it's been a pleasure to see him build up as wonderful a team as he has now.

I remember knowing Travis Dermott was not a competent NHL defenseman. And fans insisting he was. And I know Dubas and Keefe wanted to believe he was for the longest time, but they finally saw the light, they traded him, and got Ilya Lyubushkin. And Lyubushkin played over Liljegren, over Sandin. It was a wonderful move, and just for that, I wanted the Leafs to be rewarded with winning a playoff round. But the Tampa Bay defense is yet better.

But the Leafs are SO close. I think the next step is, you want a guy like Lyubushkin but who you can also trust to play 20 minutes a game. Giordano will, and should, walk. Resign Lyubushkin, or bring in someone similar, and then bring in a guy like Lyubushkin who you're comfortable with playing those heavy minutes. Then I think this team makes it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

What I admire about Dubas is that he's willing to learn and adapt. He doesn't cling to wrong ideas of hockey. And even though he's had misadventures learning exactly what are the right ideas of hockey, he's learning and each year is better and better. Next year I think his learning curve is complete, and the Leafs will surge.

hahaha the coping in this. Yes, always "next year". That's what you've been telling yourselves for how long?

I think a lot of that had to do with Toronto making us look bad. We're not as fast as we were a year ago, but Toronto made us look slow.

I think the biggest difference has been Vasy though. TB's normal, average playoff game looks pretty much like tonight. We get a lead, and then we go into a shell. But then if we make a mistake, Vasy is there to bail us out. Vasy hasn't bailed us out much in the last few months. He did tonight, when needed (which wasn't a ton), so it looked a lot more like a typical TB playoff win.

Agreed. They're a great team, and Matthews is only 24.

As much experience as our boys have, I began to think that we were going to lose this series.

That said, Vasilevskiy is a beast in elimination games. This, in my opinion, was his best game of the season.

I'm not a Leafs fan. And in fact I used to hate the Leafs. But Steve Dangle has sort of earned my sympathy, or at least my interest, and I've been watching the process and I really like what I see. I believe in them.

As a Bolts fan, Toronto is the best team we’ve faced in a few years. Matthews and Marner are great. The overall depth of the team is very good.

Tavares is obviously overpaid and is what it is.

The only move i would make is to get rid of Nylander. Guys like him don’t win in the playoffs. He’s too soft.

Trade him for Yanni Gourde++. Cups.

McDavid dragged EDM into the 2nd round what's Mathews excuse
Mostly Hedman.

I think these are the two best teams in the East. I like Toronto jokes as much as the next guy, but they have nothing to be ashamed of here. TB barely pulled this off. By far, FAR, our toughest series of the cup runs.
Well your team is also significantly weaker than past years

I don’t know if we even get to seven if Coleman goodrow gourde and Johnson are there

None the less, tampa was very good and played a series deserving to win. They capitalized their chances, blocked shots when they had to, and were physical

Even tho it's my Christmas today, Leafs are a good team, and management doesn't deserves the boot lol
They just got a 115 pts season

They need depth, but they still a top tier team, who had the misfortune to run into the defending champion
Hard to build depth when paying 40 mil for four forwards. And when trading away top picks in hopes of winning now.

I think it's been over-stated how weak we are. The Gourde line was mainly a shutdown line, so yeah, it hurts to lose them, but we have other shut down guys. Mainly Point and Cirelli, who are actually better defensive players than anyone on the Gourde line, but having the Gourde line freed them of the responsibility.

People really overstate the offense that that line brought. It really wasn't a lot, especially in the playoffs. Colton and Perry have made up the offensive gap. to say nothing of Nick Paul who has looked FANTASTIC since the trade. The big loss is on the defensive side. And it's a significant loss, and it forces us to use Point and Cirelli in more of a shutdown role.

But really the biggest difference has been Vasy. He looked human in this series... pretty much like he's looked for 5 or 6 months. If that continues, it's a much bigger loss than the Gourde line.
