Tage Thompson doesn't impress so far

Difference between discussing a game for fun (half the fun of sports even if it’s not always fun fun) and making or implying definitive/meaningful statements or judgments as a few people in here seem to have.

When he goes 15-20 games pacing like a 60 point guy, the “was last year a flash in the pan” convos become more reasonable.

Teams have started seasons on 10 game win streaks and missed the playoffs. He looked really good the games I watched.
15-20 games is a pretty small sample size too. Usually takes 200-300 games to see what a player really is and have any discussions about them.

Or, let people discuss and provide context (such as his history of slow starts and poor puck luck or how he has looked) instead of the constant zero-effort "it's been X games" posts that attempt to shut down conversation the first few weeks/months of every single season.

Isn't it even more stupid to discuss single games then? Why even have GDTs? Why discuss a nice goal? That's a ridiculously small sample size; just one play. Why have hat-trick threads? A one game sample size is worth talking about? Heck, why don't just close this forum during the season and open it during the offseason?

You can't possibly be serious.

They've been ridiculous these last 2 games playing together though?

Losing 8 games in a row instead of only losing 7 in a row was the difference between us making and not making the playoffs last year.
No they haven't been ridiculous

Thompson doesn't impress or his stats don't impress ? I watched a couple of the Sabres games this year, he looks perfectly fine to me. He almost scored what would be the goal of the year against the Habs last night, he'll be fine. He's generating chances, when he stops creating chances is when we should be talking about something like this.

Nice strawman, if your brain can't work it out itself maybe you need to stay off the internet for awhile so you can figure out how those things are completely different then we can discuss.

So since we are far enough into the season we can confidently conclude that Thompson sucks and Bedard is a bust any other very insightful takes?

He'll score 10 points in the next 2 games, don't worry.

For real though, the Sabres are very underwhelming. Lack of urgency, self-inflicted wounds. Poor roster decisions by Granato, especially regarding his D-pairs. And Levi has been far from good (anyone who thought that they could plug-and-play him in the NHL and immediately have a top-10 goalie with no growing pains was out to lunch).

Buffalo should reunite the Skinner-Thompson-Tuch line because Greenway is just not cut for a top 6 role on any team.

He’s a slow starter.

I drafted him in the final round of our Yahoo fantasy pool last year then dropped him a week later.

Only saving grace is that I dropped him to pick up Ullmark.
Are you in a 2 man league?

Buffalo is trying to change up the script, starting out crap but finishing strong
If that also means a change of script at the end of the year then I am in.

He arguably been our best/most consistent player through 6 games. Tuch on the other hand....

Sure, and he's shot at 3.5% during those 6 games. I'm sure that's sustainable for a guy that shoots the puck like him.
Which is valuable context. OP didn't make any sweeping judgements about him being done as an NHLer or anything of the sort.

Speaking as a fantasy owner, I've definitely been considering whether or not to keep him. I'll take your word for it that these 6 games are not indicative of anything.

He said he's been unimpressive and quoted his stat line. Thompson has been really good, especially the last few games. The puck just hasn't gone in.

Okay, so you’re 6’7”

That don’t impress me much

So you have Skinner But have you got the Tuch

Now don’t get me wrong yeah I think you’re alright

But that won’t help my fantasy team win tonight
