Tage Thompson doesn't impress so far

He’ll be fine, the guy is a demon physically.

Huge reach, great hands in tight, very fast and has a laser of a shot. As someone else said, if he can figure out how to produce consistently, I can see him hitting 50 this season.

I feel like the focus has shifted a little more to paying attention to details on defense, so the offense may dry up a little. Once they figure that part out they should be really good because we know they can score.

Almost like SH% in small samples are whacky… 29 shots in 6 games is an elite shot rate. 1 goal on those 29 shots is not going to hold. An AS on ice SH% of 4.6% is not going to hold. 64% CF and xGF%. He’ll be fine and this thread is dumb.

Chad is an idiot.

Chad is correct.

only numbers that matter are goals and assists. Everything else is just bullshit that doesnt amount to anything.

Kotkaniemi>Crosby confirmed

Chad is not right.

Chad cherry picks what he wants to share in order to prove whatever contraian point he wants.

He fails to mention the stumbling and fumbling both Tage and Cozens have contributed. The turnovers and bad decisions by both in defensive zone.

Having said that.. they'll both be fine... but as of now they have both sucked this year

The game tonight and one other I saw him play at the end of last year when the team was mired in a slump, I noticed that he shies away from the front of the net and floats in some weird spots. My assumption is that the league adjusted to him, and we just haven't seen him adjust back. Will be interesting to see if Granato changes things up or if Thompson can find a way to become more of a presence in the game.

It’s possible to play well and not accrue points just as much as it is to play poorly and score them. If he continues to play at this level he’ll be fine.

He’s a slow starter.

I drafted him in the final round of our Yahoo fantasy pool last year then dropped him a week later.

Only saving grace is that I dropped him to pick up Ullmark.

1+0 in 6 gp, -4. And Buffalo is the last in Atlantic.

Tage Thompson started last season with 1G, 2A in his first 7 games, probably finished the season terrible and didn't impress anyone based on that right? Or we can use our brains and realize it's only been 6 games.

Because sample size over such a small amount of games is stupid to discuss? That's like saying McDavid doesn't look like the best player in the world because he has 2 points in a 3 game stretch, ok discuss?
Isn't it even more stupid to discuss single games then? Why even have GDTs? Why discuss a nice goal? That's a ridiculously small sample size; just one play. Why have hat-trick threads? A one game sample size is worth talking about? Heck, why don't just close this forum during the season and open it during the offseason?

They've been ridiculous these last 2 games playing together though?

The Sabres are already digging a hole so deep they can't get up from.
Losing 8 games in a row instead of only losing 7 in a row was the difference between us making and not making the playoffs last year.

People need to give seasons a little to get going. Plenty of players are fast starters who fade into nothing, and plenty of players are slow starters who are big performers by seasons end. We haven't even hit 10 games yet.

..but that’s not how it’s pronounced!

So far he’s looked pretty Tuchered out. Didn’t Tuch his tail between his legs in that fight, at least.

..his stats don’t impress. Are you actually watching the games? Serious question.
I know! But my joke doesn't work otherwise.

He’s saying if he plays the same way they’ll probably come, and that people don’t need to panic yet.

As people have pointed out he started slow last year, and as needs to be pointed out the first month or so every year sample size is a thing. Slumps happen, slow starts happen etc.

Difference between discussing a game for fun (half the fun of sports even if it’s not always fun fun) and making or implying definitive/meaningful statements or judgments as a few people in here seem to have.

When he goes 15-20 games pacing like a 60 point guy, the “was last year a flash in the pan” convos become more reasonable.

Teams have started seasons on 10 game win streaks and missed the playoffs. He looked really good the games I watched, even if not perfect. He’s probably fine even if he peaked last year he’s more than likely better than these 6 games.
