Player Discussion Tage Thompson 2

Too lazy to do the math... but Tage might be outscoring Jack, Sam and Risto.

Combined.
It doesn’t take long to factor in the Risto math.

He has more goals than all three combined.

He had the same number of points and Jack and Sam combined heading into todays games…but Jack got 3 points. Risto’s 2 assists on the year would have given the three of them the edge anyway

Good sweet lord Wysh is a grade-A Sabre-hater and moron:

First off, I'm hoping the fan vote fills in some of the skills competition blanks. Based on this roster, Alex Ovechkin might be the only guy to break 100 MPH in Hardest Shot.

I think it is ignorance and not hating any specific team.

Ovie is the only former Hardest Shot winner to be named so far. My guess is that is the extent of his research.

I can't wait for his reply.

:sarcasm:

You may have to look at the bottom of the graph a few times to make sure you have the dates right. He's kept up with McD for an entire year. And outplayed him the entire time as far as P/60 goes.

Of course that doesn't tell you too much -- McDavid plays a huge amount more per game, etc., but damn, that graph is kind of mind blowing to me. That's McDavid we're talking about, and a full year :amazed:

From that thread-

“I don't hate Tage ; I hate the idea that a guy who shown no ability to produce in the NHL is magically going to pot 20.”

Incredible how quickly Tage’s perception around the league has changed so quickly since the start of the season with this dominant stretch. I remember the Norris vs Thompson thread where I think Norris was winning at that time, the same comparison would be a blowout in Tage’s favor now. We are truly blessed to have the Tage, how did we get so lucky???

Tage didn’t get injured. That changes perception.

How did this guy get so good out of nowhere in his mid-20s?

It's one thing to blossom and be a late-bloomer, but he's pulling Mario Lemieux moves on the reg now.

Don't think I've ever seen this before.

Maybe Zdeno Chara is a far away comparable, but it wasn't about finesse.

Yeah, but you have to remember the coaching staffs he endured, the mismanagement of his position, and the personal life stuff he had going on early in his career. If he landed on a better team that was more stable, I bet you would have seen this a while ago.

I dunno, usually elite talent is evident regardless of coaching and/or (mis)management. The talents of Eichel and Dahlin were very noticeable despite guys like Bylsma, Kruger, and Housley. Tage looked like he was gonna max out as a replacement level player who would float around the league for several years, and never approach his supposed ceiling as a 30/30 top six winger. Tage becoming an elite player seemingly out of nowhere is pretty crazy. I dunno if it’s unprecedented, but I can’t recall a meh forward suddenly becoming one of the best in the league at age 25.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy and am enjoying every minute of this. But I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around him exploding on to the scene the way he has. Simply incredible.

to be fair, Skinner was even worse under Ralphus

What in the world was Ralphus doing?
