Post-Game Talk: Sweet McDavid Tears

These are always the most clown'ish responses. The GDT is like a "by the second" pulse of what is happening at the time of the post. They are always going to be hot takes, because they're live reactions...

It's extremely easy to pipe up after the game with a post like this, when you have the retrospective perspective of the final outcome.

If you don't want hot takes, you might as well nuke the GDT all together. It's basically a thread that tracks the pulse of the game.
Having a PMA when the chips are down is what differentiates winners from losers. Yes it stinks when the Leafs get scored on, and even worse when the goal is Dairy Queen soft, but it doesn't mean the games over, it doesn't mean to fold the tent and hang an L on the game. It sucks all the enjoyment out of the game listening to all the loser talk. This for better or worse is our man cave, and when people are over watching the game but theres somebody in the group on full whine and doing the chicken little thing, they'll never ever get invited back. We wouldn't tolerate somebody in our dressing room being negative because it infects the entire room. The game is 60 mins not 26 mins long. People need to get their adult on.

If you guys want an amazing read. Go to the Oilers board and read pages 45-61 of their GDT. So much insulting and crapping on Matthews, Nylander and Tavares. Only to be dumped on by all three.

At what point will they wake up and smell the coffee. We crush them damn near every time.

Pretty sure if we lost every game against the oilers after tonight, we'd still have a winning record against them on the season.
well just like here, they have a bunch of pre-pubescent fans as well

I just don't see a point in visiting the GDT during the game anymore. Way too many people and posts, 0 meaningful conversations + I am kind of busy actually watching the game.

It's something I've just started doing this year, and I'm pretty sure it's time has come to an end. You really don't get the full impact of the game if your attention is continually divided. You btw are correct very few gems to find in there just a lot of dirt and slough.

Good to see goals from our big money guys. It feels the Leafs outshoot the opposition by a wide margin every time and it doesn't show up on the scoreboard. It's been a while since they won a game by completely taking over the game and dummying the opposition.

Good to see Campbell redeem himself in the 3rd and OT.

Good to see Gally starting to gel on the second line. Maybe there's a bit of a redemption to him yet. Dont need him to be the 30 goal guy - just work hard every night.

Good to see the Leafs be on the other side of a collapse. We never talk about those enough. Other teams fold too sometimes.

you think they will make healthy Andersen sit, I dunno about that, I dont think Freddy would like that ... huge risk by Dubas
It’s about the Leafs and winning, not what Freddy likes. Andersen is done in Toronto.

A huge risk would be moving away from a winning goalie who’s playing well. Obviously all of this depends on Campbell continuing to play well.

I’d be happy to try Soupy in the playoffs as the starter. He’s got some games here to cement his place, but if he falters, or gives any reason for doubt until then (Like a 4 or 5 game losing streak the way Andersen played recently), Andersen is still an option. If he is indeed injured or that’s the reason for his bad play, he must be better by playoffs.

Jesus, so now we are pining for Barrie?
Hell no, I’d have to be insane to pine for Barrie on my team in any way. I’ve seen that disaster flick in our zone and want no part of it. My observation was strictly to highlight how average Rielly is offensively compared to Barrie.

The Good: Don't want to jump the gun, but it's looking more likely that Galchenyuk is the answer for the 2LW. He's been effective so far in every start, if this is still happening at game #10 then it's going to be where he stays. I think he needs some time on the 2PP, that wrist shot he has is world class. JT looked like he wasn't going to let them lose, he had a great game. A flukey goal is maybe just what the doctor ordered for Mr Matthews, hopefully the damn bursts and he starts pouring them in, it certainly looks like his shot is back. Muzz and Holl looked pretty effective and seem to be back to where they were prior to Muzz' broken cheek, Dermott isn't horrible but maybe it's time to give Liljegren an audition, I think he's going to need to get some reps before the playoffs.

The Bad: Willie Ny as the 1st star, bad choice in my book, yes it was great to see him with the deuce he put up being a big part of the win, but he wasn't very effective for most of his shifts. Simmonds didn't look like he should be on that line, he was OK there but I don't think it's his spot. Sheldon Sheldon Sheldon, I know Jumbo is a great guy, good team man, a lot of fun in practice, but he's not a first liner anymore, the job belongs to Buster full stop.

The Ugly: Seeing as many other people have commented on it, I won't because there's enough negativity as there is. Game management is for losers in loser leagues, if you're going to call P:ierre Engvall for a borderline hook(it was a penalty) then you have to call Draisatil on the interference, the Xchecks, and on the slashes, McDavid on the boarding, Kassian on the interference and slashing. You cannot let that crap go and then make the nitchy calls, but I guess Gary say's it's A-OK!

The only thing the Oilers are good at is ensuring that McDavid never wins a Stanley Cup

Admittedly I haven't been watching many these empty arena games this season just highlights/game-in-6. So full games spread apart does help you see player progression when you actually sit down and watch an entire game again.
Matthews has increased his physicality significantly, he's bumping and holding ground much more than in earlier seasons. It seems to be some techniques he's picked up watching Tavares who lives and dies on holding ground and protecting the puck.
Engvall seems like a better talent than Kerfoot now and he's still on the ascent as a late bloomer. Predictably a tall forward who isn't terribly physical becomes a target for some.
Galchenyuk's a bit of an echo of his former self (a near-game changer) but man alive he's still got beautiful hands. And he seems like a pretty decent forechecker.
I wonder if Bogo could use a bit of a rest. Also a bottom pairing right side defender would probably be a good depth add unless the organization thinks Liljegren can do it.

Great character win.

Happy for Tavares to score a big goal that started the comeback

Hilarious that Matthews cant buy a goal lately and then scores on a pretty fluky play for the GWG.

Campbell made some big saves when the team needed in the third period.

I am slightly concerned with Holl-Muzzin's play lately. Both guys footspeed is looking suspect the past bunch of games.

I agreed. The Leafs need to clean up their defensive game. Not just the D, but the lack of interest from our forwards sometimes. Engvall has no choice but to be perfect defensively. He doesn't do a lot otherwise.

you just reminded me of when the Leafs would try flicking the puck over the heads of the opponent and chase it down haha. babs at his best
