He's not wrong though, I don't think he had a shot on the second goal but that first goal was a bad one to give up, third goal was point blank bang bang but again he had the angle covered but just managed to get by him.

All in all looking at the quality of the goals he gave up I'd say you'd want him to have saved one of them. 2 goals against would have been a solid performance for him in this one.

I don't like him to spot a 3-1 lead either, but what's important is he shut the door in the third and didn't allow a further backbreaker somewhere during the comeback attempt. That's critical for the team to want to keep pushing and not just throw up their hands and call it a night. Builds trust and confidence.

Anybody know why the 1st line is getting 7 more minutes than the second line? Granted, there is some PP time allocation to consider but the second line was a huge part of the comeback. This has been going on for a while as well. The second line should definitely be up in the 17-18 min range.

Yeah not sure about the disparity. I don't know why both Thornton AND Marner, two weak-shooting playmakers, are on PP1. Thornton should be on the 2nd and Nylander should be getting those minutes.

I saw 2 that could of been called on him... an easy trip on Hyman late in the game... but he's mcjesus so doesn't count.

No doubt Gally can get an extended look on that 2nd line, but Simmonds is a bottom 6 player at this point and Thornton shouldn't even be dressing every night, IMO.

If you want Hyman driving the third line, we need to add a legit top 6 LW. We have the space and the resources to do so.

Freddy would have been roasted if we got this performance out of him. Man's playing hurt and was doing what he believed was best for the team. Campbell was hurt so they needed to go to Hutchinson, not the team's 3rd but 4th option, because Dell had been claimed.

To me he's more benefeciry of time and respect

He's going to have his way if you keep the lane open. Stevens, Pronger, Gauthier, Kronwall, Doughty Kasparaitis would have decked him by now

Matthews gets cross checked regardless, Tavares gets run over by Kassian. So why play with deterrent mindset? they go after out players, go after theirs. Old school

But we have bunch of pretty boys in our team. There's not a single D in North that is scary. Check out Zadarov or half of Vegas. He wouldn't be pretty against those teams

I thought the third goal was their best. He misplays the first and overplays McDavid on the second, like everyone else on the ice. Tough save on the second, but it wasn't an ideal spot for Drain to put it

Maybe against the Canadian teams sure, but the Leafs should be pretty dominant in the first 2 rounds if they play they way they're capable of. They'll need to step up to beat other top teams like Tampa, Colorado/Vegas, or whoever makes it out of the East (metro) division....

Agreed. Those teams mentioned will not allow much space on the ice and will all finish their checks.
It remains to be seen how we will match up against those teams. They will most certainly be forced to play grinding hockey and I’m not sure we have those types of players yet.
