It is a category 3 hurricane. You need to be prepared. If not, that's on you.
I have family in North Port... they're older, 60s/70s. Hoping and praying they're prepared. Talked to them on messenger and my aunt said they "aren't too worried".. well I hope so. And hope they're not underestimating

My mom's cousin is in Bonita Springs and I have friends in Ft Meyers/Cape Coral/Venice. I have a new hire who lives on one of the islands off Ft. Meyers. Nothing like starting a new job and a hurricane hits. Talking to her this morning she was near tears.

All you can do is hope everyone took the proper precautions at this point. This thing is showing exactly why they call it the cone of uncertainty.

Having previously lived in Florida for many years, I find this to be largely true lol

My brother lives in Port Charlotte. Charlotte county is divided into emergncy zones and his zone is under a mandatory evacuation. Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area took a direct hit from Charlie so he's been through this before. He's stayng with a friend in Orlando so he should be physically safe but he's worried about house damage.

Sending good vibes to your brother and his neighbors and friends. I’m glad he’s safe inland. Keep us posted on how he makes out.

Hugs!

Thanks for the good wishes. Cell phone service was affected during Charlie so it could be a a number of days before I can find out what his situation is.

Here on the Florida East coast, we are still in the cone, but it looks like it will go past me.
Tropical storm force winds and a LOT of rain coming. They are talking 10-15 inches by Friday.

So I went to the hospital today after being sick for a couple of days and not being able to breathe. It wasn't pneumonia or bronchitis like I thought it was, but I still need to do another chest x ray of my lungs on friday. I think it could be pollution related because I live near an industrial area.

That sounds very scary, I hope you get some answers. If it is pollution related, what can you do? Is moving somewhere else an option?

Wishing you well! That’s scary.

We stayed in Fort Myers Beach four years ago over the New Year holiday(at the Diamond Head) and I recall the hallways on our floor being nothing but thick concrete, the place was built for Ian.

People are out with surfboards:

Yikes. Good Luck! did they give you something to help your breathing?

Nope. Locked into to my rent agreement for a year's worth and I need to be near my place of work, which is unfortunately near an industrial zone.

They gave me four sets of medications. Three types of pills, one of which was 500mg acetaminophen, and some cough medicine.
