The talk about mice reminded me of what I refer to as "The Night of the Weasel". We have had mice a few times but nothing we couldn't take care of with some traps. I have a history of waking up and thinking there are things in the bed - mice, frogs, rabbits, etc. Poor hubby....anyway....

A couple of years ago I woke up and thought something had run across the bed, I calmed myself down, told myself it was a dream, went back to sleep. It happened again so this time I sat bolt upright and listened. I heard something...we have a backsplit so noise travels easily. I got up and went into the kitchen, and a weasel ran across the floor! OMG, I was in hysterics and obviously woke my hubby & daughter up. It ran down to the family room and it went like this:

- closed the door to the bedroom downstairs and thought we had it - hubby with a towel to throw on it but it got under the closed door which is less than an inch gap to the floor
- it ran into our gas fireplace - the space between the brick & insert - then comically it would peak out at the top, then the side, then the other side....I started laughing because it was so cute and reminded me of "whack-a-mole"
- we eventually went back to bed, closed our doors, put towels across the bottom to try and deal with it the next day - it was about 3:30 am.
- woke up at 4:00 and heard banging, got up, it was in the kitchen and in the bottom drawer of the stove with the pots and pans
- it ran to the dishwasher and got between it and the counter - then somehow got through the hole in the side of the cupboard into another cupboard, I opened the door, it ran out....lol
- finally got it in the front of the house and closed the doors - hubby was chasing it around the dining room table and I stood at the front door ready to open it
- it happened, it ran towards me and I swung the door open, getting behind it .... out it ran into the night.
It was like the squirrel in Christmas Vacation, thank goodness it didn't end up on my back...LMAO!

Sorry for going on but it was unbelievable. I had never even seen a weasel around here before this. Imagine how it is for me now when I think something is in the bed....

They are doing it again....I love how the writer put it:

"Over the weekend, a Lil Baby no-show led to a considerable fan uproar at the PNE, marking the latest riot in an ongoing trend in Vancouver when fans don’t get what they want."

Over the years, a few notable riots have caused Vancouver to make international headlines, namely the two large protests in response to the Canucks losing in game 7s during two Stanley Cup Finals appearances.

Had to leave my house this weekend due to mice. Packed up the kids at 9pm Saturday night and drove an hour to the lady friends house. The kitchen construction downstairs must have stirred them up. Perhaps the LEAST offensive/disgusting evidence of mice that I found was a hole in the feed line for the dishwasher. Of course I discovered that hole the hard way. I am beyond defeated at this point.

I think it's time to get a professional over there. I'm sure they're going to say to fill the holes in the cellar and trap/bait everywhere upstairs. The big issues with this:

My house is a million years old with a million different additions. The foundation is stone, it's full of holes by design. Other areas of the foundation are literally bricks and rocks in a crawl space. I can't even describe how messy it is, and how difficult this would be to seal up.

The other issue is animals. I have a dog, all the neighbors have dogs, and there is a farm about 100 yards back in the woods. I would hate for an animal to stumble across a poisoned mouse and consider it a meal

I dont know. Just defeated. I wont have the kids over until some progress gets made
I hear you loud and clear. Our building is about 120 years old, lots of spaces for little creatures to crawl into despite efforts to seal them off. I use a combination of traps, DCon and cats to keep the population under control, no way to eliminate them completely. Don’t worry about using poison just throw the corpses in the trash instead of just tossing them outside. Charlie Coyle caught his first mouse the other night!!

Here's a little story: If you are going to gut your master bathroom and install tile shower and tub....be prepared for dust. Lots and lots of dust.:( And be prepared for each sub contractor's work to not be checked by the main foreman. My husband's about ready to lose his mind. (something about plumbing, valves and waterproofing. idk but I think there is going to be a donnybrook today)
I'm grateful and its going to be beautiful, but feeling all of the 6 planets in retrograde right now. woof.

edit: no one is raising their voice, so....this is good.

Saw a doctor yesterday about back pain again. Got a prescription for cyclobenzaprine which is supposedly a muscle relaxer but I took the first one this morning and now I feel all loopy and very tired. Blah i hate drugs.

Got an xray this morning so we'll see what that says.

And they always wanna blame the guy before them right? Before anybody even starts it’s like they always have to give you a warning of why they might do a less than stellar job…and it’s always the guy before them.

It’s so hard to find a professional unless you know them personally. Then when you do find one, it’s even harder to get them to the house because everybody else wants to hire them for bigger and better jobs.

Exactly right. And the number of non registered contractors here is high-you have to be careful of scams, etc.

They seemed to work out whatever Trevor's concerns were--he had 3- that involved too thin waterproofing, a hose that wasn't in the right place and something else. (the foreman called the plumber on the spot) The foreman addressed all the concerns and he seemed to feel better.
I think it was the craftsmanship he was unsettled about. We aren't ever moving, so we are going to be looking at that bathroom for the next 30 years.

Next we decided on the curve (or no curve) of the quartz countertop. I have never made so many detailed decisions in my life. It's good experience for me, being in the industry I'm just starting in.

I can tell you what a bullnose is now :D

Did you go L shape on the counter? Is that the curve/square decision you’re making?

Sort of. It's the edge of the countertop and whether it has a "lip". I chose the fully rounded with a lip. (no bevel) I'm not sure if that makes sense. In Feng Shui there shouldn't be any sharp edges. I'll send you along some photos when they are done today.

The only way I have found that works is to hire sole proprietors exclusively. You have to wait longer but they are the only ones who seem to care.

I mostly find them through a carpenter I know who sometimes general contracts job. He has given me good leads on one man show electricians and plumbers.

Same. Like you said it does take a while to get them over though. I can’t blame them for taking bigger jobs closer to them though. That’s been my struggle over the years living in the south shore area, 30 minutes from a highway

Surprise, surprise! NOT. Just award the silver medals to the USA and be done with it.

Valieva's career (and that of most other Russian skaters & athletes) is effectively over anyway as Russia has been suspended or expelled from nearly all world sporting events for the foreseeable future due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Boy did Putin ever f*** that up. He just ordered a partial mobilization of 300,000 men today. It won't do much good as it takes a long time to train & equip new soldiers and Russia has neither the time, the instructors or equipment in sufficient quantities anymore. Russia will probably keep on doing what they've been doing right along- send the replacements straight into the front lines with little training, poor weapons & even worse leadership just to be destroyed there by Ukraine's armed forces.
