When did I say that at all? I recognize the difference in species. That doesn't make one species better than another.

"Not the same, but equal."

You quite clearly said that humans are better when you said that we should not get our moral cues from wild animals.

First we ate the horses. We weren't riding anywhere, not with the castle surrounded. We couldn't feed them. So, fine, the horses. Then the cats - never liked cats, so, fine. I do like dogs, good animals, loyal, but we ate them. Then the rats.

As you can see from the last bit of this thread, I'm very open to having civil conversations on these topics with civil people. The bulk majority of you have no interest in any sort of intellectual conversation, but rather name calling.

I also do activism work in my community.

hmmm...

Dustin, the adults are having a conversation here. Go on and play in your room.

How does that imply we're better? It implies we have the ability to possess ethics. At no point did I say possessing ethics made one superior to a being that couldn't.

It is our own egotistical nature through which we as a species determined our superiority to others.

Can you tell me which animals have been able to:

Have ethics

Create life saving technologies that can prolong the life of animals

develop transportation capable of leaving this planet

develop the technology to communicate and coordinate with other members of the same species across the planet instantly.

create irrigation systems that can benefit the whole of the species and that of other species

take endangered species in, protect them, and try to cultivate their population numbers for the extension of that species' existence (you conveniently fail to mention that humans do this, where no other species does it)

develop ever evolving methods of education to improve the proficiency of the species as a whole?

Undertake the kind of assistance to other members of the species like the red cross, doctor's without borders, etc. On a regular basis, humans take time out of their lives to try to benefit others, where in most animal populations they live by survival of the fittest, and tend to their own family unit. Many species will leave injured and weak members of their own species to die (I know some species offer support but they're a minority)

I can go on and on, but as far as species go, in good cases and bad, no species is as superior thus far in sheer accomplishments and abilities than humans.

It's one thing to say that no life is more valuable than the other, kumbayah and all that ****, but to say humans aren't superior to any other species is just silly.

I think that if you think about that for a few minutes you will realize that the ability to possess ethics and make free choices does indeed make us "better" than rats.

There are some terrifying implications if you truly believe that a fellow human being is no more important than the fly buzzing around a pile of crap.

We've visited this strawman before, but let's do it again.

If intelligence makes one superior, then am I allowed to kill those who are less intelligent than I am?

If so, I propose we both take an IQ test and when I am proven to be vastly more intelligent than you, I get to kill you.

You're responding to a strawman with a red herring. Well done old boy!

Making moral choices ≠ intelligence

Not the same thing.

I am a borderline psycho in my defense of animals. If I ever saw someone hurting an animal for no reason I would ****ing lose it. In grade 11, on the last day, the grade 12's decided they would do a graduation prank. They got gophers, broke their legs, and sent them waddling around the hall during class change (you know how busy hallways get). I was in class when my friend sent me a text about this. I stormed out of class, grabbed a couple of buddies who were on their spare period, and started a huge fight in the hallway.
I would have stabbed the guy, but that is why I don't carry knives on me.

So in conclusion, the arguments from this thread are as follows:

Me: All lives have the same value, despite the recognizable differences in species. Limiting harm is the path to take.

You guys: Intelligence and morality determine the value of a life, only selectively though, specifically when it fits your narrative. If you can't completely eliminate the harm then there is no point in limiting it.

Nope. For me at least, not at all what I said.

I am a borderline psycho in my defense of TJ. If I ever saw someone picking on TJ for no reason I would ****ing lose it. On HFBoards the other day, the Loungers decided they would counter-troll TJ. They took his arguments, broke them down and pointed out his terrible contradictions. I was on plunkd when someone posted about this. I logged out of plunkd, grabbed a couple of buddies who are also part of my clique, and started a huge fight in the thread.
