Loves the last 7mins when we pressured the puck and Flint had a hard time setting up/breaking out and pulling the goalie. Great game by Sig/Yearwood and Cogs. What do you think NHL Scouts are saying when they watch Villy? What a beauty play on the EN goal.

Vandenberg was not great but held the fort when we needed. 3 of 4 goals were on the PP

Vandenberg was great that 3rd period. Flint outshot Sudbury 14-5 that 3rd period. No goals allowed from Vandy that period. That's what we've been missing. Giroux and Kressler are a pain to play against. Giroux takes his game to another level when playing against Sudbury lol

We need 2 D minimum, maybe 3 to round out this team. 2 more Nick DeAngelis type players. Protz get hurt, I don’t recall seeing him in the last half of game?

We have 5 defenceman more than good enough to win a championship. Adding 2 more would be unnecessary and a waste of draft pick capital imo. We need forwards.

I wonder how many teams try to go for it this year.

If you consider adding a significant piece all the way up to all-in as teams trying to go for it, I think 9 teams attempt to be better playoff teams than they would be right now.
I say attempt because sellers may not be able to support that.

There were 9 last year that went all-in and that was unprecedented.

Yeah, I’m not at all confident there will be enough available to duplicate last year, but I beleive there will be ~9 that will get something significant.

??? By my count it was 7. Some other teams did some tinkering but they didn’t “buy” in the colloquial sense.

NB
Ottawa
Petes

Sarnia
Windsor
Kitchener
London

Barrie added Thorton, Savard, Hache, and a depth player.
Flint tried, got bigger on D and got Dann; missed on Harrison.

Some squads might try to bolster their line ups just to get some play off revenue. This has to factor in because these franchises are a business. Rangers made some significant moves last year and turned the team into a pretender. Got play off revenue and pulled a Cinderella on the Spits. Wonder how involved the owners are at the trade deadline when it comes down to play off revenue?

I think Barrie left a lot on the table. They tinkered with their line up but didn’t really “buy” IMO. Flint just threw picks away. If they decided to pay a proper price for Dann, I don’t think you’d call it buying. They also left a ton on the table too. Again another team I’d say just tinkered with the line up but didn’t really “buy”.

I see 2 in the East and 5 in the West

East

Ottawa
Sudbury

West

Soo
Kitchener
London
Saginaw
Guelph
Not so sure on Ottawa, they gotta move an OA goalie (Maybe Kingston) but will be tough this time of year to get proper value. Do you let Stonehouse walk for nothing? No depth, specially down the middle. I see tinkering vs All In.
On the other hand, I see Bulldogs taking a chance on a weak Eastern Conference.

We have 5 d-men who were at NHL camps, 1 of which is signed, 2 who are draft picks.. Our 6th d-men is on the central scouting player to watch list.

If you need to add 2-3 more d-men, we might have a coaching issue, not a player issue.

Arguably our two best D are undrafted or unsigned by any NHL team. One that has signed has played in the O 1.5 seasons. One missed first half of season. One still remains unsigned. Are they good? Yes of course. Are they great for an all in year? That is the debate. IMO there can be improvement. Depth and skill and meanness would be nice for second half..

I agree both teams left a lot on the table, but both tried.
Flint (Dent) wanted to be bigger. He added Guryev and Smith to the back end. Flint tried for Harrison at the time of the Smith trade but were supposedly turned down by Harrison. I think there were others that turned down Flint.

I don’t know what you think Barrie should have down. Wright wasn’t going there. Barrie added depth in a G from Erie, D from Petes, F from ‘67s in addition to bigger buys of G Thorton, F Savard, D Hache.

Brantford & Ottawa will both want an import and OA, I account for them as one buyer. In addition to the teams you list, I think OS & NB add a significant piece each as long as the roster appears healthy after the break.

Could be difficult for NB to add a significant piece with only a 2027 2nd available.

If you add all these teams as buyers the number of top players available will be limited. I hope more teams sell
