We do have size, we do have talent, we do have speed …we just gotta figure some sh!t out.
Is it me or does it seem we lack a firm commitment to discipline and defined player roles. PENALTIES are the only thing that beat us last night…with some uncharacteristic rookie turnovers (that happens)! Too me, besides Goyette nobody knows what their roles on this team are. I don’t care if your an OA, 1st overall pick, in your draft year, from Europe or an NHL Draft selection. This team comes first, winning as a team comes first and ice time is EARNED! Ask yourself, who is the QB on our PP? 1st Unit, 2nd Unit? Our PK Players have been identified for the most part. Formulate the lines with what works using what you see and what you know works. Don’t worry about an OA’s ego being hurt. Because besides Joe Ranger, the coaches owe nothing to the other two. After 2/2 game suspensions DeGrazzia would get less ice time than Mauro (just saying)! I love Toure but he has to be dialed in and disciplined by his coaches. Discipline has to be an interpersonal decision enforced with consequences! Yes it may result in some more losses as undisciplined great players sit on the bench for a period or two, but the message being committed to the TEAM will resonate with everyone and then, finally then will there be accountability and success! Please don’t forget what we fans witnessed last weekend! This team can play amazing hockey!! Against Barrie no penalties until end of 2nd…pp goal on a double minor and a Major. 3-0 lead against the Pete’s, penalties lead to game being tied! Create DISCIPLINE and ACCOUNTABILITY and you’ll have nothing to complain about and only post praise!!
Lastly, I haven’t seen it on here, but Krawchuk played amazing last night and was a man on an island! We got a good one here folks, kid competes, tracks well and looks confident in net!! Great game Nate….

Agree with it all. Nate was ok not outstanding. Rebound control and maybe could of had Pinellis third goal. He had a clear view just didnt get set quick enough. Even the tying goal to make it 2-2 he didn’t get over quick enough to stop the shot from a bad angle. Yes with time he will be good. However we needed a few big stops from him to keep us in and maybe get the bench going. The team was very flat in front of him continually backing in and allowing Kitchener to take the zone so easy and with speed. The 7th goal was just pure garbage defensive coverage by our Captain!

Yes.
Then as currently constructed, the wolves will still be a 7-8 seed. To improve on that this season better 19-20 yr olds need to be brought in, multiple moves forward and defence. That comes at a cost to the future.

great post. The first two periods versus Barrie in that game, is a snapshot what this team can do, fast, skilled and physical at the same time discipline. It was the best hockey I have seen with the Wolves in a long time.

Team needs to play discipline hockey, going through the OHL scores for last night games, I would say the teams that took the most penalties during the game lost 99 percent of the time. I'm a big fan of Toure, but he has been getting these same penalties before, that needs to stop. DeGrazia suspended twice already for slew footing, when listening to Ducanson on it basically brushed it off. Discipline and accountability will go a long way on this team for them to be successful.

McCallum top 6 experiment needs to come to an end put him on a third line checking roll. Please figure out the PP, it looks different every game, when they do score on the PP, they go to a different unit next penalty I don't understand the logic here.

Villeneuve is a top 3 pick, we can see what he can do, I don't get him playing on the 4th line. He's skilled, fast and physical and can fire a puck, but we got him behind McCallum, Larmand, Boudreau etc? We had Derbidge good size, strong, had a great camp, and was a scratch in beginning of the season, instead of rewarding him for his great pre-season they scratch him, what message does that gives the team?

There is talent on this team it needs to be guided and channelled the right way. Season is still early, we play Ottawa Sunday, historically Ranger plays very good against this team lets get a win.

I like what Duncanson said in this article let's see how he handles it.

Couldn't agree more.

With Larsen being returned to Mississauga maybe the Wolves can pick up Callaghan. He has been in the league for 4 years and is leader on the backend and can move the puck out with pace. Control the PP and takes shots on goal. In fact he has taken 25 shots on goal to date more than any Wolves defender. The next closest one is Holmes with 19. Robinson has 12. For an overage dman Robinson is not doing enough. At least Callaghan will be a cheaper version of Moore from Oshawa. I'm sure Ranger can vouch for him being a good guy to have. I really believe its something we are really lacking on the backend. Mississauga got a gift in Larsen returning and have already waived their import Hull to make room for him. I don't see Mississauga letting Hardie, and Larsen go. So it will be between Callaghan and Uberti. Both quality players with great energy.

Duncanson has basically admitted that he has failed this team.He cannot establish discipline and admits it.To say that he is now going to try a new strategy after almost a year and a half at the helm tells us he does not command respect with the players. The victories that will come will happen in spite of this chaos, and only because of the inconsistent individual player execution, and not a well structured consistent team effort. To give him more time to figure his way out of this quagmire would be detrimental to player development and to any prospect of a successful season.Zulich needs to make the switch to Dorval before it is to late to undo the damage.

Toure is a penalty machine. What the heck..
Watched the game, keep shooting ourselves in foot with these penalties, and particularly major ones. To me something is missing the personnel is there we have the talent. To me it's the coaching, constant changing lines every game, not just lines. Constant players playing different positions, it's like throw your stick in the middle see what line you're on. Pulling the goalie early when down late in game is kind of embarrassing, that's Mickey Mouse to me. It does no good to pad the other teams stats, it's stupid. I rather them take their lumps with a loss instead of GA going through the roof :) I gave Duncanson a fair shake, I think it's time to cut him loose. Division is tough not going to get better.
Hard to argue with any of this Cub. Might be the best post I’ve read from you.

Zulich doesn’t know shit it’s likely up to Papineau but yes he should definitely be asking questions and demanding accountability.

I don’t how many times Duncanson can sing this song, the record is going to start getting worn out from the needle skipping.
As some have said, the undisciplined play NEEDS TO STOP! and if the coach can’t deliver the message and demand accountability we need to find one who can. Surely Papineau is seeing what we’re seeing. It’s literally like gifting the other team the game. Touree should well know cross checking guys in the face is frowned upon. What league did he play in that allowed that?
I’ve said I like Dunc and would love to see him succeed but the accountability falls squarely on his shoulders.

My post go up I must have screwed something up.
Duncansons hands are somewhat tied with suspensions and penalties. Hard to takeaway icetime or bench somebody I those circumstances.
Watched most of a practice this week and it ended with a "group therapy session at the end with duncanson forcefully making his points. Hard to know if it was heard. You only get to fire tat a d the benching bullets a few times before they lose effectiveness.
For what it's worth McCallum was the hardest worker and 9st engaged at that practice. If that is normal that is how he is earning his icetime

How do we know Dorval 8s the answer?

We don't know for sure but what we do know is that he has a track record of success.Duncanson does not.

Well said and appreciate the info from practice. Also in this league you can't go around benching kids for an extended time. Maybe a shift or two but that's it. It's an development league.

It's not the pros where they get paid regardless of minutes played.

What Papineau should do, which I believe he's doing, is seeing if this core of players is that right fit going forward.

I'll be curious to see what he does moving forward.

Well if last game was any indication the group therapy talk and Duncanson’s forceful points didn’t amount to a hill of beans. Wolves lead the division by 24 penalty minutes and also lead for most goals allowed. Not a recipe for success in any league and yes it’s early but if this erratic play and lack of discipline continues, barring any tinkering or new additions the Wolves look like they may ONCE AGAIN be fighting to just make the playoffs. The cream is rising to the top and these early points are crucial.

Lycanthrope you seem to be level headed guy, tell me what this team needs to be better. Do you like how this teams built and do you think a new coach will get better results.

Is Dorval the answer? Who knows, but he surely can't be worse then the leader we have now. Same problems game after game, from last season to this season.

For the second year in a row we're going to be watching wolves players tumble down the NHL draft rankings. These players are considered very good when they get here, but Duncs manages to ruin them.

With Papineau, there is good and there is bad. I'm still waiting to see the good with Duncanson, unless its his PR skills.

Many thought Papineau settled for a local coach, not many expected a great coach. But to say ruining players in 8, 30, 60 games; that’s a bit much. What were your expectations for this roster as is; ~0.500, 5th in division?

My expectation? Improvement from last year, not the exact same issues. Wolves are going to be among the league leaders in goals against and penalty minutes, yet again. Despite having, once again, a great goalie, and once again, a roster that is playing fairly soft.

Honestly question for other fans here, why are we so ok with mediocrity here in Sudbury?

A lot of differing thoughts on where this team is right now, but I don’t think we are necessarily ok with mediocrity. I for one remind this thread each year that it has now been 15 years since a wolves team has won a game in round two of the playoffs. That year the wolves lead the very weak central, the wolves were a perfectly middle of the pack 10-11 in league standing and goal differential.

If we’re being honest, Papineau has to add players ready to compete now to even reach mediocrity. Unfortunately for the wolves, the central is really good right now, and it seems there are a couple of really good teams in the east. We just might have to be a little patient waiting for the core of this team to be 18-20 in 2024-25..

Just going by the teams on paper, Sudbury should be right there with Niagara, North Bay and Barrie (when they don't have Clarke) with the goaltending SBY is getting. MISS has a far superior roster to SBY, but not sure why you're acting like SBY is all scrubs on paper and has no business being alive in the central. That shouldn't be the case

Only if they develop under Dunc.
