Was watching

They're probably trying to bring him along slowly. Put him in the best position to win. I assume.

yes desperate time now. We are in a bad predicament, it is not all goaltending, team as a group needs to better and smarter, all these penalties doesn't help the situation, we are not a team that can afford to take penalties.

We beat ourselves. End of story. Defensive mistakes, too many penalties a PP that has to get figured out and forwards who need to bear down and score (stop over passing). Can’t seem to get to the 500 mark. Be ready for a much better team tomorrow…
Yup the over passing is pathetic in scoring spots on the ice. Mania can't recognize that he is circling into 3 guys in the middle of the ice. Trying to force something when he's last man. Skate back and go behind the net. Set up and allow players to get into position for an outlet pass. The attitude on him has been very apparent the last few games. Seen yelling at his own teammates for making mistakes when he could easily be accused of the same. The power play is terrible. Surprised that they are still trying the umbrella set up! Try something different. And honestly I don't expect a better effort tomorrow I think some guys have checked out. The last week the will has not been there on the road. Dumb penalties, started with Larmand and continues.

The goaltending by an overage has been so inconsistent from shift to shift. The wrap around was mind blowing to me. You are a big man stretch out your leg and cover the post. Slow and uninspiring is all I can put it. The floater from the point. Stay big and play in the centre of the net. Why did he move so much to the right post. The breakaway again legs wide open for an easy tuck in. No poke check, or doesn't play a proper butterfly. I'm done with that experiment. It would of been ideal to try an another goalie back in November to see if would work then release Ranger. Otherwise Ranger remains. The decision making has been questionable to say the least. But honestly at this point play Krawchuk the rest of the way. Build for next year.

I would rather a lottery shot now instead of playing Ottawa or North Bay if we were to slide in. Number 1 pick is Roobroeck and after that there are 3 quality forwards Griffen, Hopkins, Moore and top D Schafer.

No we aren't. the type of team the wolves are they can't make to many mistakes cause they won't be able to recover most times.

Unfortunate really.

When Ranger was here he was playing all the games, why not Krawchuk. I rather playing our stronger goalie against a team we should beat and get the points.
That’s another interesting way to look at it. Look, we know it’s not our only problem I think discipline is right up there with it but you need solid goaltending when you have defensive lapses, bad penalties, etc. and we just can’t count on getting the big save when we need it. Even if he does make a few big saves during the game, it’s all about timing and the timing of our goaltenders has been terrible this year.

I'll always wonder what Ranger would have looked like if his workload was decreased. He was consistently playing 3 in 3 weekends and at times there seemed to be a correlation between him getting rest and then playing better.
Very good point, no one is going to convince me he wasn’t a better goaltender than Brassard.
Thats my biggest contention with the whole thing. It was a slap in the face and desperate. Papineau just dumped a really good kid who loved playing here for I goaltender that no one wanted. Pathetic and desperate and not fair to Ranger, especially considering the results. The issue is not whether or not Ranger was always cutting it. It’s the way Papineau went about things. By the way, I called Brassard for what he was the first time I seen him. I tried to hold out a little bit, but never really believed it.

Yes, very good points, each one of them and what I’m seeing as well. This is what makes the team so incredibly frustrating to watch when you know the talent they have. So answer me a question who do we blame for it and doesn’t McKenzie have to absorb some of the responsibility? After all isn’t it the role of a good coach to help teach kids of this age how to play the game? If that isn’t the case, then can we say that it’s all on Papineau and the scouts… or are the players just not coachable most of the time…Things to consider.

… accumulated at forward by waiting until round 4 or 5 to select a D in four consecutive OHL priority drafts.

for selecting players that are undisciplined and cannot or will not defend

Good goaltending hides a lot of weaknesses. Krawchuk will be the man. And DMac can't improve the goaltending this year, but I believe the team in front of the goalies is better since his arrival.

Paps knew we needed a goaltender and took a flyer on Brassard. In hindsight, Ranger backing up Krawchuk would have had better results. In hindsight.

I’m concerned about Dmacks decision to put our top scorer behind the goal line on the PP. Goyette has 32 goals and can’t shoot where he is on the PP. not smart. If Konyen is so good at passing and Musty why are they the shooters when both only have 10 goals ot so. Mind boggling

The defence on this team is horrible….

That doesn’t fly as much as it used to. They still can be out to lunch but credit where it’s do, they’ve been limiting shots like crazy. Today Niagara had two goals on only five shots in the entire period. I suppose they were both unstoppable. Yes our defence can be suspect….which D can’t. What makes ours more of an issue is we’re missing the defensive anchor. You’re only as good as your weakest link and that tells a tale about this season.

Really don’t like admitting this but his decisions have also been puzzling to me at times.
It’s early but as far as Musty, I’m starting to understand some of the murmurings. I really see him as being one of those high profile players with more than a little talent who could either have a career or who could totally not work out. I can think of countless examples. We’ll see, but he has a lot of bad habits, including throwing the puck away routinely and not always demonstrating the highest hockey IQ.

Close your eyes a moment and imagine: you are playing on this team as a 16yr old rookie, or a 17-18year old. You have secured a spot on the team. First half a season you can’t win because you are the most penalized team in the league and there is zero accountability for players performance in and off the ice. Two players quit the team, eventually one returns. Coach gets fired and new younger coach with NHL experience and his dad begin coaching along with two new hires as Assistant Coaches. Team play and defensive play improve drastically, your GM sells at the deadline and releases your OA goalie. Your team has limited depth and a new tender comes in from another league as an unknown. Your top 17year old forward misses a month with an injury, same as an elite 18 year old forward. An OA forward, great on draws and PK, gets suspended 6 games. But somehow you are 2 games below 500 and tied for the last playoff spot.
The coaching has been great since the change over (will be exceptional after PP gets figured out). Krawchuk “Chucky”has been a pleasant surprise in net and has earned and is getting more starts. Brassard is who he is. If he was Martin Brodeour he wouldn’t have been placed on waivers. I’m guessing when Ranger struggled mightily after the first month no other team was willing to trade a tender, so there may have not been many options.
Furthermore, Galton goes down with a long term injury.
We still have an open Euro spot.

We can easily point our fingers and blame Paps, Coaches, Scouts and undisciplined players but ultimately what we are watching is young players growing and developing. They play the game, they are ultimately responsible for the outcomes.
To me, we now have one of the top 3 coaches in the league. Not every penalty is undisciplined, some are good penalties or just terrible calls.
Mistakes will happen: Mania is so talented and probably the best skater with the best edges on the team, he now knows he can’t be skating back towards our net with the puck blind as the last line of defence. Mental mistake, technically he can turn and face up ice to make an outlet pass(he will learn). I can’t believe Coach DM isn’t teaching a proper PP, but now players need to execute.
From what I read on these boards: there are teams in way worse situations than our Wolves. This was never going to be our year. Best outcome make the playoffs and let the players gain the experience and have fun with it. If we make it, we will be getting a top 6-8 pick in draft. Lots of draft assets so the sun will come up tomorrow. Better days ahead.
We are still making the playoffs.

Powerplay goals this year

Goyette 7
Pharand 6
Delic 4
Konyen 3
DeGrazia 3
McCallum 3
Villeneuve 2
Larmand 2
Musty 0

It seems a stretch to me to suggest the wolves have one of the top 3 OHL coaches. Where do you have Savard, Hunter, Cameron, Richmond, McKee, Lazary, & Williamson?
Watch the replays of goals against yesterday and take note of where defenders were. There is a lot of work to do on the defensive side.

Ranger must be watching and having a good chuckle!

Bad Karma came our way!

WJ
Might be having a good chuckle, but he's struggling at the Jr. B level currently.

Joined a 1st place London team and they've since slipped to 2nd, soon to be 3rd.

4-4-2 with a 3.43 and a .904 Sv% since joining. The lowest of all their active goalies to date this year.
