The league is so mamby pamby now. Used to be unless you laid somebody out badly or injured them you served your match penalty and that was it, you played the next game. I hope the NHL never gets this convoluted and soft. Don’t even get me started on this iPad review BS. Reffing is getting as bad as it was. Wolves aren’t helping by reverting to their undisciplined play. Dont know what’s up with that but the stupidity is back.I did not see play so just commenting in general. Refs will call majors and then review to see if it should be reduced to a minor of the same penalty. They do it this way because they cannot call a minor and upgrade to a major. Although infrequent, I have seen penalties reduced.
The problem in this case is there is no minor penalty for slew footing, so the choice is major or no penalty, they cannot change call to interference high stick, roughing etc.
If I am wrong on the rule I don't mind being corrected.
I don't believe the suspension is automatic. Depends I think on ref report. Game report says major not match, that may make a difference
These aren’t the defence that can win a championship. If they were really good, with the way this team scores they wouldn’t be in a dog fight for the playoffs or have 10 short handed goals against. To win a championship, your defence has to be at the top of the league. There is no Xhekaj, no Del Mastro, no Beau Akey. These are the calibre of players a team needs to win. No 6 of them, but at least two, and the wolves don’t have one. This team doesn’t need very much up front that can’t be filled will the import draft, but unfortunately there will only have one pick to use for a skater because Papineau doesn’t have a good goalie in the ranks. So he’s praying he finds a goalie overseas that can be a starter. Krawchuck is good, but not a great goalie yet. He isn’t starter material next year. Papineau won’t be back, and I doubt Derek MacKenzie stays as there is already chatter about him possibly going to Vancouver to help out Tacchet and DM has an escape clause.I forgot that rosters for next year are locked in by January 27th.
20 year old Toure
19 year old Collins
18 Year old Mania
18 Year old Chromiak
If you trade for a 19 year old top 2D this D core does not look bad at all. Still have Euro draft and priority selection to add to this. I don't think Anania will be an overager but who knows what overage D might be available for cheap to add to this group. Larmand isn't an overage candidate in my opinion. Bishop, Walton can fight it out for a 7D spot.
I recall saying in the preseason that MacCallum could be really good in his 19 year old season when most on this board said they had seen enough and he's pretty much a lock as an OA candidate and people on this board said he was too valuable to trade away at the deadline. Players get better as they settle in the league and get older. Chromiak and Mania both look like they will be great 19 year olds and should be solid OHLers next year.
I won't speak on the goalie situation at this time.
Yes it is. Also where is this “chatter“ coming from. Heard nothing of the sort. Vancouver is a tire fire right now. I doubt Dereck will want to leave just as the team he’s developing has a chance to make some noise but that too is just my opinion. Does anyone know what his contract is?These aren’t the defence that can win a championship. I just don’t see a strong enough defence to win anything next year. This is just my opinion.
No there really is not a legit top pairing D for the wolves next season on the roster at this time. Collins and Mania might make an excellent #3 D. I think one top LD and one very good LD (I’m not convinced Anania or Toure can be that) would give the wolves a contender worthy D corps.Yes it is. Also where is this “chatter“ coming from. Alex Assadourian got no points last night I’m so glad we traded him he’s a bust. (sarcasm)
We can go all season long with the " gritty " offensive busts that this roster possesses. At the end of the day the game is won by scoring. Through injury and suspension we are running out of viable scoring options and AA can do that.
Papineau won’t be back??! I very much doubt that. He will be here next year at least. These aren’t the defence that can win a championship. A lot can change between now and next deadline. That’s the idea. You address what you see as shortcomings. The Wolves have tightened up nicely defensively. A little optimism that whatever shortcomings we have could be addressed would be nice. Let’s hope the Wolves have some gas left. Literally playing without their three best players. No there really is not a legit top pairing D for the wolves next season on the roster at this time. Collins and Mania might make an excellent #3 D. He’s got a ways to go. Let him prove he can be successful in the O. Of course there is the element of wishful thinking at play. Would hate to lose him so soon.Papineau won’t be back??! I very much doubt that. He will be here next year at least.
Derek on the other hand will have other opportunities to be be back in the NHL. However if he plays his cards right he might be able to have two very successful years behind the bench in Sudbury that could lead to other things like an head coaching gig in the NHL or Team Canada WJC coach.

Well so upset with this because they beat themselves by being on the wrong side of the puck twice. Robinson and then Larmand. However with the last game of 3 and depleted I was worried. Not even mad to be honest
All things considered.

Brassard played the OT one badly. The guy has only one play to make and he opened up when all he had to do was paddle down. So weird for a big guy not to cover the bottom.

Should have gotten the 2 points today regardless of 3 games in 3 days. Robinson looked extremely slow and coughed up puck on tying goal. Frustrating!Konyan missed a sitter late in third it would have sealed the deal. Brassard was playing well but couldn't seal the deal not all his fault, but I was hoping he steal one.
Our OA defence man looked bad on one goal and brutal on the other two third period goals. That’s why you have an OA defence man, to make the safe simple plays when you have a 3 goal lead on the road. This game was in hand. A point is great but our vets gave the other point away. Not even mad to be honest

I thought he played very well first two periods, he was a +3. Collins made a big mistake on Guelph 2nd goal, he missed on the pinch, Guelph scored on that play. I know Robison gets alot of heat, but not all to blame on this game. Guelph last goal was alot dumb mistakes, if they dump that puck out properly they win that game.Should have gotten the 2 points today regardless of 3 games in 3 days. Exactly. Playing well for three quarters of the game doesn’t count if you can’t seal the deal. I’m very worried that if we get into the playoffs (which we should) our goaltending will be our undoing.Konyan missed a sitter late in third it would have sealed the deal. Ya don’t forget the last line of defence that didn’t shut things down and come up big when it counted. Our OA defence man looked bad on one goal and brutal on the other two third period goals. Not sure where you are coming from on this....most will tell you thar Mark McKelvie is among the best in the league at pxp...myself included....gives props to visiting team..fills in for other Rogers broadcaster in other city's because of his reputation...must disagree with your takeWolves with a depleted line up with most of their firepower out need to finish on the few opportunities they get. We need points today. It’s going to be tough going without these guys back in the line up.
As for the broadcast today what a difference!!! These commentators are well seasoned and much more refined than the crew in Owen Sound last night.
Let’s win the third and hope for one full PP this period.

Very tough. Hoping for two at least of our top 3 players back Friday. As it looks now might not even have 1. Stay tuned....tough schedule coming up NB, Missy, and Barrie, hopefully we get some bodies back.
In the past two weeks Hamilton beat the Petes, Battalion, & [‘67s twice (3 in a row)].Exactly. Playing well for three quarters of the game doesn’t count if you can’t seal the deal. I’m very worried that if we get into the playoffs (which we should) our goaltending will be our undoing.
Very gutsy effort but for heavens sake man you blow a three goal lead in the third. Hard to be happy right at the moment but they’re doing what I said they needed to do which was keep their heads above water. As if Hamilton beat Peterborough this afternoon. Loading up? Ya right. Don’t see them going anywhere. Two dog race for me. North Bay and Ottawa.
