I think Martin would be a good addition, but I'm not sure I'd want them to move away from Anania or Toure until they see how the D-core looks. If they can trade McCallum for fair value, and then pick up Martin, I think that could be an interesting addition. Regardless, I think the most likely scenario is the Wolves wait until the team is on the ice to make any other moves.

I can see Zac Giroux being a possible addition to the overage conversation. If we are going to talk local kids. I see Boudreau and Larmand being dealt or sign on with a school. McCallum possibly traded. Opening up a spot for a forward with some leadership qualities. Giroux fits the bill. I'd also explore Ludiwiniski from Kingston. If we can somehow convince Dvorksy to report (miracle) maybe Chromiak to Kingston for Ludiwinski would be a good starting point. With Mania, Collins, Toure taking up the 3 spots on the right side Chromiak becomes expendable IMO. Plus we have Bruce, Protz, Walton and Jackson and possibly big Hayes taken 8th in the U18 draft. If we strike gold twice and Cleveland reports then this team will be loaded.

WJ

I would think any future moves will focus on the D and strengthening the bottom 6. Players better be ready for a highly competitive camp this season! I’m not sure there are any locks for the OA spots, beyond Anania I think it is wide open. Gonna be fun as we will have many players coming back with a taste of Pro player approach and attitude. This can only help build a strong winning team.

Love seeing our young men going to NHL camps. I hope Delic and Degraz hit it out of the park. Love seeing these guys get their due.

I'm really looking forward to the start of the season. We should be a top 3 team this year.

Top 3 in the East or the League?

From reading other team pages & looking at rosters for next season the East looks relatively weak but the West is loaded. Are we able to pinpoint another team in the East that has built their team with a timeline to "go for it" in 2023/24? I'm not sure I can. Then there is the discussion of whether this is a "go for it" year for the Wolves. As of right now I am of the opinion that this is a "go for it" year considering the Vondras pick, our collective team age/talent & the relative strength of the conference.

Winner of East is automatically in the Memorial Cup this year due to Saginaw hosting I believe.

I was saying the East, not the entire league.

You make a very good point. We are as good as any team in the East. I just don't trust the management and now that DM is gone, RP is going to be calling the shots from the rafters again. In my opinion, it's just not a good formula.

I could, however, be wrong. We do have the talent to finish anywhere in the top 3. My 4 top teams, in no particular order in the East are:
Sudbury
Ottawa
NB
BC

What I’m hearing lots of players are going to be attracted to go to Saginaw being the host of Memorial Cup. Have to say they are the favourites coming out of the West at this point.

Sudbury and Kingston should be in the top four. I doubt Ottawa is in the top two. They have lost their top three centres and only have one centre returning. They have their top three defencemen. They may finish 3rd or 4th but only because all the other teams other than Kingston in the East Division are in rebuilds. They could drop lower if Oshawa, Brantford or Mississauga are ahead in their rebuild. North Bay will be rebuilding. They have lost most of their forwards and have key loses on defence. The Eastern Conference is weak this coming season.

Last season, no 16 year old OHL rookie played a heavier skilled game than our own Nathan Villeneuve. A skilled and fearless Center man who is great on the draws and responsible in the D Zone, Villey will shoot up the NHL Mock draft boards this season. Always stepping up to defend his teammates and taking shots off his face to score goals, he is fully committed to the team and winning!! Under appreciated by those who don’t see him play often, he will be a riser this season. Teams win with players like Villey….Go Wolves Go!!

Love the looks of Quentin lifting a trophy! What did the Wolves say on draft night? In Must We Trust!

I agree whole heartedly...He is going to be a wrecking ball out there. I expect he'll come back from the summer bigger and stronger and with his hockey sense and non-stop motor i think he'll be a top player for us and will be a 1st Rd pick next draft. I realize 1st rd is a tall order but what i saw last year really felt like just a small taste. He's the player I'm most excited to watch come September

I’m sure Villey is in Beast Mode inside the gym and on the ice this off season.

The east is definitely weak compared to the west right now; and, Sudbury and Kingston should be 1-2 if they are serious buyers.
I think Kingston will need to pretty much empty the cupboards to be ahead of Brantford if Brantford get their imports to report. Ottawa should be at least middle of the pack.
At the very least wait until the OA situation settles before writing off NB. I am not convinced as others that NB will be compelled to rebuild this season. It would take a situation IMO similar to Mississauga last season where 3-4 teams add enough that the only good option for NB is throw in the towel. The Battalion should not be in a rush to rebuild. They appear set to have 8-2006 born and 1-2 players from the ‘07 class. They are in a much better position with picks than Miss was a year ago. And certainly aware that Barrie & Miss will rule the central 2024-26.

It's going to be another very good year for the Wolves in the draft IMO. I've already seen people placing both Chromiak and Villneueve late first/early second, and seen a few people placing Kieron Walton in the mid-late 2nd.

If Kieron is a 2nd rder (finger crossed) ...I feel from watching a fair amount of Espo games that his Brother is in the Front half of the draft as well. His brother Conner seemingly is a better skater and plays a nice defensive game seems really cerebral and doesny make many mistakes...If he gets a crack at the lineup as he should hell be drafted

Wolves have quite the log jam on defense heading into camp. Lots of battles for the final spots. Good problem to have, but tough decisions to be made. Considering they will probably carry 7 or 8 Dmen on the main roster, and you'll have 6 starting D spots. Also the balance of right shooting D and left shooting D in our top 6 isn't ideal, with the majority being right shooting. But I don't think that's a huge issue to start, you play your best regardless and some can play on the left side if need be.

1. Anania LD 03 OA (should be a lock if he returns as an OA)
2. Toure RD 03 OA (should be a lock if he returns as an OA)
3. Collins RD 04 (lock)
4. Mania RD 05 (lock)
5. Chromiak RD 05 (lock)

Next internal options to round out the D core:
- Conor Walton LD 06 (signed)
- Owen Protz LD 06 (signed and highly touted)
- Nolan Jackson LD 07 (2023 2nd rounder - not signed yet)
- Brayden Bruce RD 06 (signed)
- Will Bishop RD 05 (signed, but younger options have passed him on the depth chart)
- Maverick Hayes LD 06 (2023 1st round U18 draft - not signed)
- Jayden Connors RD 07 (2023 4th rounder - not signed)
- Brady Cleveland LD 05 (2023 7th rounder - not signed)

I really believe we need to get more experience on the left side. Anania is a great shot blocker and should slot in the second pairing. We need a true first line left shooting dman with some experience. Someone mentioned the lad out of Pete’s. That would be a good fit here. Thing is Sudbury needs to deal at least three dmen and two of them being on the right side. Bishop being one, and most likely Protz. Than Chromiak or Toure. Nobody is going to play 7th or 8th slot that was on the roster last year.

Just my opinion.

Agreed, in a "go for it" year, that D core is not a final product. A top pairing Vet LD will be needed at some point to make a serious run. Bishop has no value, maybe for a late pick but more then likely released or re-assigned. We've got lots of picks, and some quality young D to put together a nice package to land that top pairing Dman.

Totally!

I see like this.

Trade Collins
Anania Mania
Walton Toure
Jackson Chromiak
Bruce
Cleveland if he reports would change lots in the top 6.

No room for Protz, Hayes, Seguin, Connors and maybe even Bruce.

A package deal has to be in the works. Some of these kids need to play in the O this year.
