What a joke! Gave the keys to the team first to Stillman, who’s kid wanted nothing to do with Sudbury. Then he brings in DMac who had no intention of staying. Anyone believing else wise also thought we were getting a new rink
Now he names KMac coach! Brutal
Next week Joe Drago ass’t gm!
Joe Drago got me ...

Not a great day for the Wolves. Will be interesting to see how Paps sells this as a good thing to us.

Speaking of dreaming, you will never pry Poitras or Donovan away. Might instead focus on McCoy and Simpson. Gotta take advantage of teams who badly need to re-stock their draft cupboard.
Agree, but LD is needed in a bad way imo. So Simpson & Mayer. Mayer has not missed a game for any reason since entering the league.

Not super surprised of DMac moving on, and I wish him all the best. Very disappointed in them just naming Ken MacKenzie as the head coach. Guess we should not expect anything but the cheapest option on the wallet for Dario going forward.

To get both Michael Simpson and Donovan McCoy would likely cost Sudbury a good 17 year old player and multiple draft picks. The Petes are likely going to want a combination of draft picks and players for the players they trade. They are not going to trade their best players for draft picks only as they need players to replace those being traded.

Could we just start with getting a top goaltender ASAP. Papineau needs to show the Wolves are for real this year and it starts in net.

A strong line up would look like this

Musty-Goyette-Hayes or Poitras
Martin-Villeneuve-McCallum
Taylor-Delic-Pharand
Yearwood-Melee-Coughlan

Donovan-Collins
Anania-Mania
Chromiak-Toure
Bishop

Euro Goalie
Gaulton or Krawchuk

Trade or release

Larmand, Boudreau,Konyen, 2 Waltons, Protz, Gaulton or Krawchuk
The Petes likely will not be trading Jonathan Melee. He could will be their next captain and will probably play two more years in the OHL, as he will likely return as an overage in 2024-2025. You have him slotted on the 4th line. He is far better player than that. He played on the 3rd line in Peterborough this year and in fact saw time on the 2nd line in the Memorial Cup. Why would he agree to a trade to a team where he would be playing on the 4th line when he would have been playing 1st line minutes in Peterborough.

Not arguing Melee’s talent level but when your draft cupboard is empty everyone is available….having said that I’m not sure he would be a target for the Wolves.

If the Wolves do trade for Simpson, a young goalie can be sent back…

Melee has two years left thats why he’s interesting. To win the Memorial cup you need players who can move up and down the lineup like Delic and Melee. Melee will probably never play on a top 6 as a pro if he makes it but can become that depth guy who shuts down the top line eventually and he’s very good on the PK. He’s already way better than Larmand and doesn’t cost an OA spot. I don’t think he has a no trade clause and pretty sure he’s a player who would fit perfectly our hockey style. To win the league championship is awesome but you need depth to win the Memorial cup. Papineau can’t wait for January to make all his moves he needs to be proactive very early so that the team can build chemistry together.

No disrespect towards McCoy but I highly doubt wolves have any interest in this player. Myself included.

What value do Ludwinski and Soto have in K-Town?
KGN plans on competing. They bid to host the memorial cup.

That’s fine we will keep him.

Agree with Wolf, yesterday was a tough day and feels like a step back. This team has a strong core in place, here is what I think this team needs for a CHANCE at a deep run.

-19 year old goalie NOT a 20 year old. I'm not in on Simpson or any other 03. Those OA spots are too valuable and you need them used as skaters. As far as who, someone will emerge. No one had Simpson or Constantini as a championship winning guy the year before they did it. A couple examples of 19 year olds next year would be Lalonde and Flores. I Don't care about their stats both great goalies playing on bad teams. There will be others who take steps this year too (same as Simpson did). Could also try for a 19 year old Euro

- LD as someone else noted in a previous post. RD is our deepest position so no need to add there unless by some miracle you could get Nelson. 04 LD options DeAngelis, Donovan, Van Vliet, Okitundu, Sova, Mathurin, Carlisle, Smythe , Smith x2 would be examples of potential targets. That said a couple of those teams may not be sellers.

-Three 18 or 19 year old Fwds. 1 needs to be elite (Beck Mc-Barker, Hayes) or 2 very good ones (Ludwinski, Jelsma, Fimis, Lavoie, Pitre, Roorebrouck). No sense dreaming of players from strong teams who we have no chance of getting (Haight, Poitras, Stonehouse)

-OA's, I like the group They have to choose from. Mcallum is a tenacious skilled player top 6, Larmand ideal 3C on a championship team. Good draw man and has grit/tough, Boudreau came on big in the 2nd half last year and is a good 2 way player. On D Anania quietly had an outstanding season. Will be one of the better OA D in the league next year. Toure can also be an ideal shutdown guy who is a menace to play vs. He will only improve off his first season.

If Paps is doing a deal with PETES the focus should be on Beck and K. Smith. I'd be ok adding Melee but at the right cost. I don't see how he has any more value then boudreau other then being younger. If he played up the lineup with PETES it would have been because of injury. Stats show a 3rd line guy on a good team until proven otherwise. Maybe he takes the jump this year. It is important not to over value guys just because they played on a winning team.

Very good analysis. I agree full heartedly.

If the Wolves do trade for Simpson, a young goalie can be sent back…
The Petes would not be looking for a goalie in return as they already have Liam Sztuska and a good young goalie in Easton Rye. In my opinion they would want a good young forward or defenceman for Donovan McCoy. However Michael Simpson and Donovan McCoy would not traded together as Simpson would be traded early in the season and McCoy closer to the trade deadline. Michael Simpson alone would cost at minimum a 2nd and a 3rd round draft pick. Donovan McCoy would cost a team a good 17 year old player plus draft picks.

Owen Beck would likely cost a team either a 16 or 17 year old player drafted in the 1st round plus multiple draft picks. Konnor Smith would price would be a good 18 year old plus a couple of draft picks. As I said Jonathan Melee will likely not be traded.

McCoy is better than pretty much every Dman on Sudbury's roster currently. I’d take him in all day
No doubting his talent and skill set and from what I’ve read he is also a high character/fine young man. We’d be honoured to have him. Recognizing he is a RHD we’d make it happen.
