Been super fortunate/grateful being asked to speak at local High Schools and Colleges to discuss addiction/recovery over the years etc...two weeks or so ago I spoke at a HS, grade 12 students, afterwards, a really sweet young lady approached me, said she was terrified with her dad`s drinking, he wasn`t/isn`t violent but drinking, at least a dozen beers a day, was just let go from another job etc...

I provided her with a number he could call when he`s ready, she can beg, plead with him but only until someone is truly ready will they change. I got a call Saturday afternoon from our local AA office as I`m on a list there for them to call me if someone is looking to go to a meeting but is hesitant not knowing anyone. I agreed to meet the man at a Tim Horton`s prior to the meeting, he walked in, after some small talk, I discovered it was that young ladies father.

He now has 3 days sober, taking him to a meeting tonight. No guarantees he`ll stay sober but always grateful to be of service to others
This is wonderful Andrew! Thank you so much for sharing.

On the eve of the Parkland anniversary there’s a shooting at Michigan State. Hope those who live in that area are ok and I hope they catch the perpetrator asap.

My daughter has 5 pets. One dog, three cats and Cosmo the mini pig (who now weighs 85 pounds)

So cute, I hope she has stopped growing! It reminds me about Esther the Wonder Pig up our way. It is a funny story, she was supposed to be a mini pig and a "friend" of the current owners asked if they could take her because they said couldn't have her anymore due to landlord restrictions. She grew into a full size farm pig but they kept her. They had to move and now take in other animals that need homes, so it ended up being a nice story.

We have decided to get a dog but hubby is allergic so I worry that even if we get a hypoallergenic breed, it will be tough on him but he is willing to try. We are thinking about getting a service dog first to raise. They have poodles and it would be a great way to find out how it would go for him in the long run, of course we would keep it for the full 12-16 months. It would be tough to give it up at the end but it is such a great cause. I know Lions Club members who do this continually for the service.

Our friends did this with a lab and she graduated top of her class - they even used pics of her for fundraising posters. A few months after they gave her back, the club called her and asked if they wanted the dog back. They were surprised but the reason was she was too smart. She knew how to open the fridge, cupboards, etc., and had helped herself so many times to the food that she became obese in a short time!

I'd also look into breeds that shorter hair instead of fur and no undercoat. They're a lot easier on people with allergies because they dont have dander and shed less. My dog is a Doberman and my dad has bad dog allergies and never has issues being around him

Look up Irish Terrier. I am allergic to dogs / cats as well, but they are a hypoallergenic breed. Ours is two years old and has been great so far. Very healthy breed, too, so vet bills arent too bad.

they are fine, but MSU will eventually will be fine.... why a 43 yr old who was transplanted from NJ and we'll never know why truly he decided to do this....

Lansing/East Lansing community is much bigger scale than folks outside of that region realize.... it's probably like adding BC/BU/Northeastern in one long campus......

I am terribly allergic to dogs and cats. We had a stray dog show up on our back porch around 14 years ago. Turns out it was hypoalligenic (sp?). The shelter held him for 10 days in case anyone claimed him, and they took him outside with me a few times so I could play with him, to see if I would have a reaction. (I couldn't walk into the shelter because my face would blow up) I didn't have an allergic reaction, and when the 10 days were up the kids talked me and the missus into adopting him.

Best decision we ever made. He is the stupidest dog in the world but he is a great pet. My son and I still walk him every night. He is aging rapidly and losing his senses, but is still kicking and still looks forward to his nightly walk.

My sister has terrible allergies and she does well with a very sassy Mini Goldendoodle.

We had a Westie, a Schnauzer and a Schnoodle growing up and they were also good.

The real issue is when they roll in the grass and then come looking for pets and snuggles.

Has hubby looked into allergy shots or medicine that can help him?
