wow……that industry has gone to shit. I hate to travel now. Everytime we go to visit our daughter in Indiana, its a friggen adventure of the worst kind.

Good luck getting home.
@Gee Wally

Jet Blue staff in Vancouver has been great - This is their first Canadian market and they looked at my TrueBlue account and they have awarded me a lot of points.

They set me up in the Air Canada lounge where I can try to get some sleep......

I feel helpless right now, I just want to get John out of a freezer at the Brigham and set up his celebration of life. His partner doesn't drive and she needs to sign numerous documents at several locations.

good to see JB working with you. They are my preferred airline coast to coast. Unfortunately to midwest usually I have to AA or Delta. That service leaves a lot to be desired.

I feel for you man.

Air travel as of late has been an absolute nightmare, and most of the airlines simply don't give a shit with how bad it inconveniences you.

I had a friend who recently had to fly back home (here) from CA for a funeral. He landed two hours before the service stated after missing the wake because his flight was cancelled twice. Airline made no attempt to help him out at all.

I have to travel to Boston (from Philly) occasionally for work. I started taking the Acela (Amtrak) instead of flying. It doesn’t take much longer than arriving early at the airport, etc. and it’s much more reliable/ comfortable/civilized.

Trains are so much nicer than flying.
I agree completely.

I’m terrified of heights and flying. (Pretty funny that I grew up wanting to be a paratrooper.)

As far as safety goes, they say flying is the safest mode of transportation there is, but I’ve never once heard of a train plummeting thousands of feet to the ground. I love trains :)

I love Jetblue, miles ahead of United and American in terms of comfort and customer service. I didn't realize they opened up in Vancouver, I've been collecting True Blue points on my credit card and might be open to taking a weekend trip there.

I've done to Boston to Philly thing on Acela before and it's wonderful.

I wish this country invested in national rail systems like the EU has.

100%

it's unfortunate the oil lobby squeezed out electrical advancements because we've harnessed electricity for trains for quite a long time. Imagine if we had started to work on the structure for high speed rail then by slowly converting old track spaced to electrified and then eventually maglev?

but, better late than never. We can still shift focus towards that, lots of domestic jobs to be had

Well folks my weekend from hell continues

It became apparent that I needed to fly back to Boston to help John's partner as she doesn't drive and she needs to sign paperwork at several places so the plan was to take the red eye from Vancouver to JFK and then connect to Logan. There are currently no direct flights between Vancouver and Boston so I elected to take JetBlue because I have points.

4:45 ET I am STILL in Vancouver because of weather issues.

Electrical outlets are at a premium :banghead:

JetBlue at least is now giving me a free trip to Boston so I can't complain too much. They will start flying to Logan nonstop in a couple of months.

@Aussie Bruin - cheer loud
God Bless, Fenway. Bernie Corbett is a treasure, what a nice tribute.

Sorry for a mundane suggestion while you are going through this, but I always travel with a power strip in my carry-on. The only issue is when I need to board, then the arguments ensue among the other passengers who are plugged into my strip.

I really hope apartment complexes in Oklahoma start putting storm shelters throughout each section. Far too many students rode out last night in 3rd floor apartments.

University hasn't said a word which isn't going over well.

With the exception of a small section of town, it is business as usual

Its Oklahoma. Its called Tornado Alley for a reason...... My niece and nephew both go to OU and this really isn't as big a deal as you are making it out to be. This is a part of life in this area of the country. Always has been...

It is easier for you to not comment but here you are.

Also good to know that you think an EF2 (and possibly higher) tornado isn't a big deal.

@Fenway Sincere condolences to you and your friend's family. I know it sounds trite, but remember the Serenity Prayer, you can only control what is controllable and any weather issues screw up flights more now than before the pandemic. There is no rush needed with funeral arrangements (my dad was "on ice" for over a week due to him passing over Christmas and trying to set up a Mass around the holiday), it'll get done.

The legal/probate/paperwork stuff will take awhile, again, no rush. Been there, done that twice already. Hey people, make sure you have current beneficiaries named and do a will, even if your only asset is a bank account and a PS 5.

Nobody wants to deal with the thought of death in this country, but the biggest favor you can do for those you leave behind is to have affairs in order as much as possible.

You are a good soul, Kevin.

Working at Chilis last few weeks interesting to learn the history of one if my favorite places

In the 70s a bunch if hippies wanted to make a laid back place you could get a good burger in.

I wasnt alive in the 70s but apparently the only burger choices were fancy dress up place or fast food bad quality

Thanks

Funeral home has been selected and they will most of the heavy lifting as that is what they do.

The incidentals add up - $750 for the Mass, the Globe charges $400 for the obit etc etc
