I am gutted tonight.

A long time friend John Conney suffered a stroke Thursday night while watching Pittsburgh and Edmonton and was rushed to the Brigham but he died early this afternoon.

John knew more about hockey than anyone I have ever met.

Bernie Corbett the radio voice of BU hockey offered this tribute.

I am going to have to fly back from Vancouver to help his companion Sue deal with this.

I take comfort that he died watching hockey.

I am so sorry your friend passed. May he rest in peace and blessings & peace to his loved ones.

They went from some big snowstorm to 2-4 inches of snow for Monday night.

The amount of wishcasting and posting snow maps 5 days out bit so many wannabe meteorologists in the ass hard.

I've always hated this- meteorologists shouldn't be trying to predict a storm 5-7 days out when the damn thing hasn't even formed up yet. Weather is very changeable but the models they base their forecasts on are too often taken as gospel. They're not, they are just what they are called, models.

It's dangerous too- they come across as a bunch of Chicken Littles and after awhile people just ignore them. I wonder how many people have been killed or injured because they blew off a weather warning that finally came true after so many false alarms

Exactly. Seeing the same amateurs doing this for the end of the week and just started muting them. I told my mom that if she hears anything on the national news they are talking in general for an entire geographical area. OK is going to get clobbered with some really nasty stuff tonight and she's done her prep and I told her that I'd be watching the local coverage to stay updated.

I am so happy our local meteorologists aren't doing this and I've seen a few push back on people sending those graphics from 5 days out to them.

I fear that this kind of wishcasting is going to bite us this spring/summer.

It's been a relatively slow winter for meteorologists and their team in New England so maybe they're getting desperate looking ahead for anything and everything.
It is the amateur meterologists and weather weenies as they are referred to that are just saturating social media with junk maps and "forecasts". Funny how one guy who was telling people 2-4ft of snow in eastern MA is suddenly nowhere to be found..

They were predicting it last on Google- I got a new update about 'the possibility' on Thursday but that was about it. I have social media but I don't follow or read it ever really.

WCVB mentioned something briefly about watching something late in the week and then said we are focused on Monday night.

If I'm curious about the long range (and definitely not set in stone) weather, I will pay attention to a guy like Eric Fisher from WBZ who uses it to educate his viewers about the science behind how they do their jobs.

This is just crazy. The derecho verified on top of tornadoes that are rain wrapped.

It is coming into the western part of the OKC metro. I really hope they held all the fans at the OKC Thunder game.

Well folks my weekend from hell continues

It became apparent that I needed to fly back to Boston to help John's partner as she doesn't drive and she needs to sign paperwork at several places so the plan was to take the red eye from Vancouver to JFK and then connect to Logan. There are currently no direct flights between Vancouver and Boston so I elected to take JetBlue because I have points.

4:45 ET I am STILL in Vancouver because of weather issues.

Electrical outlets are at a premium :banghead:

JetBlue at least is now giving me a free trip to Boston so I can't complain too much. They will start flying to Logan nonstop in a couple of months.

@Aussie Bruin - cheer loud

Well that sucks. You are such a good friend, I hope you are not delayed anymore and that everything goes as smoothly as possible going forward. You have a big heart, your friends are very lucky.

The storm hit near where they lived while the houses were being built. Since the southern Pat of the OU campus is down that way many students live there. Reports are no fatalities (thankfully) and 12 people with minor injuries.

It took out the major gas station in that area unfortunately.

They knew it was a possibility they’d get a tornado and people were ready for it. What makes this crazy is that it wasn’t your typical “tornado weather”. It was in the 50’s and drizzly during the day.

They had storms on the northern side of the metro and barely missed the major cities by a few miles.

Way too close for comfort. I really hope this isn’t a prelude to actual tornado season that starts in late March through May
