You have to think the GM knows his job is on the line if they miss the playoffs, and that might spell doom for Sutter very soon.

But this is not 2012, a coaching change is not going to make any difference, this is just a very poorly constructed team.

Looking forward to seeing some fresh ideas come in this summer, but it's going to be a huge challenge rebuilding this disaster.

Migosh, cheer up, fella. There's plenty to be excited about.

Seriously, you think this? To save his own ass?

Dave Taylor did that when he sent two former first rounders packing just to rent Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel. He ended up losing his job to Dean Lombardi, who has repeated those mistakes with his short sightedness over the past couple of seasons.

Raccoon, were playing at a damned disadvantage, and have been this whole season.

NOt any more. 70% of the rest of the season is at home, 90% in the Pacific time zone, and we have everyone but Quick for the most part. Yes, I miss Nolan, I think guys are playing banged up, etc., but one shot in the third period against a mediocre road team with a backup goalie having a bad season when we need the points to stay in the playoff race is unacceptable.

I've been carrying the positive torch all season because we were playing through a godawful schedule with many impact players injured simultaneously but we played better then than we are now. Maybe they're out of gas from all that, who knows, but they're out of alibis to even me at this point. Something has to give.

This game was my breaking point.

Four-to-one loss.

Only goal was scored by a rookie defenseman getting his first NHL goal.

Calgary won tonight and is 4 points ahead. We'll meet them 4 times. So, there's still a chance.

Technically.

I remember when the Kings just needed to beat Calgary to get into playoffs once. :) They didn't.

So many overpaid bums on this team. At least Brown is showing some god damn effort and is working hard out there. Can't say the same about many others.

This is what bothers me. No heart. These god damn guys are making millions and not giving a damn. I want them to trade everyone including kopitar and doughty.

You think goaltending is the reason this team is going to miss the playoffs?

What is there to be excited about?

What elite leadership? The Kings won 2 cups largely on the back of 3 Taylor draft picks. Kopitar, Quick and Brown got old, and the Kings haven't come close to drafting anyone to replace them, mainly because the GM has made foolish trade after foolish trade.

DL attacked a window that surely looks foolish in hindsight, but at the time were the right moves. The elite leadership is DL and Futa. I think you're missing Doughty from your list, brother.

Let me guess, Sutter won the cups with Taylor's roster?

"Everyone but Quick" is a hell of a disadvantage. Both, in the locker room, the team's psyche, and on the ice.

Unless you think Quickie is a product of the system (a system that many say is stale -- which I know you don't).

A hell of a disadvantage. It's unfortunate reading this post of yours, Rocky.

Kings have lost 4 of their last 5 home games. The Kings need to be sellers but Lombardi is stubborn enough to do the opposite.

What is with you guys and hyperbole and fortune telling? Hell, DL in the preseason interview with Bob said he was doing things differently.

Let's sit back and see what happens.

Quick isn't going to score a goal a game.

I know it's a huge disadvantage and I'm sure it has a psychological effect, especially game after game with a letdown goal, but that doesn't excuse the rest of the roster. It may not be a Cup favorite roster, but they're vastly underachieving for the most part. And this is the part of the schedule with the 'should win' games and they're not taking care of business at the worst possible time.

I've been mostly just lurking this year and not had much to chime in about this team until now! That. Was. Pathetic! Outshot 7 to 3 in the 3rd trailing by one! 3 shots on goal! No scoring chances. Zero! Pathetic!

Such as?

Well, yeah we do have Kopitar locked up for another 7 years.

Brown, I think for another 5 years.

Gaborik for 4 mores years.

Then there is finally some good news, we only have Doughty under contract for 2 more years. It should be fun trying to get him re-signed.

I am excited about the next CBA negotiation though. Maybe it will help get the Kings out of this mess.

Are we underachieving? Who gave this team a shot before the season, Rocky? It was always my understanding that this was a team in a small -- a very small, albeit -- rebuild. It looks this way to me, with the promising youth and all our draft picks secured.

Oh, I don't know, maybe the 30 posts or so I have in this thread. Cmon man, if you're gonna be "the smartest in the room," understand the poster you're replying to.
