I don't get Babcock sometimes. I mean, I think we can all agree that Weiss is a better player than Joakim Anderson, Dan Cleary, and (for the time being) Tomas Jurco, yet Babs plays two of the three more often than Stephen Weiss.

If I had to pick who I think the worst forward on the team is (not counting Cleary) I would easily say it's Joker. He's slow and doesn't score. He's ok defensively, but when we have Miller and Luke, that makes Joker benchable and expendable.

I'm sorry, but Anderson is a much better player then wiess. He has been playing really solid hockey lately. Weiss Has looked a little better lately. Thing is Weiss can't play the game if he's not in the offensive zone.

Took an unfortunate penalty late in the game but he's been playing well. Deserves to stay in the lineup in my opinion.

I thought after Weiss took that penalty Mike Babcock was going to walk over there and pad lock that door shut on him.

Andersson is good at blocking shots and clearing the zone. Weiss is a much better top 9 forward. Andersson is a below average 4th liner.

Creating more offense. Once again he does nothing impressive on the ice but it gets results. Can't argue with that, this team badly needs results right now

Nothing visually impressive but he's got some pretty good hockey IQ in the offensive zone. Knows when to put the puck on net or look for a better option.

I've given Weiss a lot of crap this season, but you'd have to be drunk to bench him at this point.

He nearly cost the team the game by that bad penalty in the final minutes. I'd hardly say he's safe.

You could say the same about Kronwall or Dekeyser. It was an unlucky penalty, he was attempting to get the puck.

Primary assist on that first goal though??????

His scoring won't matter much if he's turning the puck over or sitting in the box during crucial minutes of a game.

He took a bad penalty in the offensive zone. Those are the worst ones to take. If Minnesota scores on that power play and the Red Wings loos in regulation, who do you think takes the blame? Weiss is only playing because Jurco and Cole are injured.

If Weiss isn't in the lineup we have one goal in our last two games.

Weiss>>>Cole and Jurco

It was a fluke penalty. If Quincey doesn't take that stupid penalty against Boston in the third we probably win that game. We can nitpick all day.

Zetterberg has taken dumb penalties in the final minutes of a game that were much more shameful than that one.

Both Weiss and Kindl scored in their returns only to be benched again shortly after. Babcock doesn't care. Weiss is likely sitting once both of those players return and there's no further injuries. Don't know why people want to argue this.

Don't know why? Because Weiss is producing consistently on a team that hasn't been producing. Thought that'd be obvious.

Babcock is an idiot if he benches Weiss at this point.

That is on Sheahan more than Weiss. Sheahan had no business handcuffing him with that pass. He was covered and had to make a desperate play to try and salvage it which led to a penalty.

Yeah I'm not too worried about that penalty. It was unfortunate, but Minnesota would have had a break the other way and Weiss did everything he could to prevent that.

I'm sure a few followers like myself have been down on Steven Weiss since pre-season, continually looking for flaws almost hoping for failure to prove a point.

I am overjoyed to say I was wrong.

The last 2 games I've had the strange experience cursing him for even being out then BAM he scores! I felt guilty, as I should and it was Weiss saying **** you! I love this game! There has been a lot of criticism. There is a high expectation to play in Detroit and by the looks of things Weiss gets it.

I don't care how much he's paid or what he was "supposed" to be- the fact is he makes us better. Weiss on a 3rd or 4th line shows powerful depth. If he keeps being a major factor to the Wings winning he could very well play on a 1st or 2nd line. We have to focus on this season and lay it all on the line, be open to the...mojo? I'm glad Weiss is in the band.

Nobody is saying Babcock won't sit him when they're healthy.

What many of us are saying is that he shouldn't sit him when they are healthy

At least not in Jurco's case, Cole deserves a spot when he comes back but Jurco should be in Grand Rapids.

Like I said, Weiss is good in the offensive zone. He's a complete disaster anywhere els on the ice
Anderson is also under appreciated on chat boards.

Agree with you. Andersson is good in the defensive/neutral zone, and complete disaster in the offensive zone.

Use those guys in right zones and it will become good things.

The thing is that we Red Wings fans aren't used to, is not every player has to be a defensive juggernaut. Yes, he gives up turnovers. But he also puts up points. And you need points to win games. So he shouldn't be benched unless he stops putting up points and starts costing us games. Part of the reason our offense has suffered over the years, in my mind, is because Babcock only wants players who are defensively minded, and doesn't know how to treat a player who can put up points but is sloppy defensively.

Of course, the issue is magnified because our defense is struggling a lot, but if we had a decent defense, it would be foolish to keep benching him. Until he starts costing us games he should play.

I think "complete disaster" is an exaggeration.

I think we are better with him in the lineup than we are withou him. He has played better than Jurco for most of the season.

I'd be a fan of these lines...
Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Abdelkader
Nyquist-Weiss-Cole
Tatar-Sheahan-Helm
Miller-Glendening-Andersson

Or

Cole-Zetterberg-Abdelkader
Helm-Datsyuk-Tatar
Nyquist-Sheahan-Weiss
Miller-Glendening-Andersson
