I agree that we can't let the sport devolve into a headhunting bloodfest. As angry as everyone may be regarding the Prust hit, the sport has to come first or we all lose. So, although I am sure that Carcillo would not have jostled the official (or even taken the penalty) had the officials called the game properly, a hockey player just can't do what he did. The 10 game suspension is absolutely appropriate.
As far as Prust goes, retaliating against other Montreal players will change the Rangers' game plan, which for the most part has them dominating the Habs. Any change in the game plan is a mistake. Plus, do the Rangers really want to stoop to this level? Playoff hockey is intense and tough, which is great to watch, but I for one do not want to see outside the lines retaliation rough stuff, particularly since we gain a lot of fans during this time of year.
In fact, the real retaliation does not have to be physical at all--winning the series goes a long way.
