I'm honestly not concerned about that. It wasn't like he punched the ref. Sure, he needs to learn to control his emotions better, but three games is a bit of a joke for breaking free from the refs grasp. Overblown imo.

I don't agree with any contact with an official, 3 games was what he deserved, he hopefully has learned from that.

Though I haven't seen one ARZ fan who didn't like him, quite the opposite.

DeAngelo has great talent. He could be good for us. Has experience playing with Skjei too.

His off ice issues can be dealt with.

He can help the PP.

Well, I'm not a Coyote fan but I do live here and he was a "meh" to me. He's OK. I know you have to be patient with 21 year old defensemen but he didn't jump off the page for me.

Shrewd move by JG. Easily the best hands of any d man we have now.

I've seen him a lot here in the cuse and he is as always one of the best players on the ice for either team

His skills stand out. Hes fast and moves easily On the pp point. He can run a pp for sure and will make
Our pp more dangerous. Good strong skater and nice hard shot. Has all the skills plus the ability
To be physical and play a chippy game.

Very aware away from the puck as well. Not a slouch defensively at all.

Who would you compare him to? Is Justin Schultz a fair comparison?

So what's our plan at the center ice position for next season? Our #1 Center is going to be a guy who didn't even look very comfortable playing his first season with the team? For the record, I don't mind that we traded Stepan, but our current lack of center depth is alarming.

I doubt Gorton is done.

If you were to go off of right now, our depth would be Zibanejad, Hayes, Miller, and then possibly Andersson or we could look internally to Nieves or Tambellini. UFA option exist, too. Gorts mentioned he saw Hayes and Z as top-6 centers. Take that as you will.

Thornton is out there, and if you can get him for 1 year, that could be a stop-gap while also adding some offense.

Could Nash be flipped with money retained for help on D or at center?

The defense is the real question. Do you sign Smith and make the best of it? Just Shattenkirk? Can you fit both under the cap? Franson?

It's only June 23rd.

Its not great but move Miller to center and its not that much worse... Buchnevich hopefully a regular next season aswell.

Zib, Miller, Hayes down the middle isnt awful. Thats 3 centers who was on pace(or scored) for 50+ points last season. Stepan had 55 points.

Kreider-Zib-Zucc
Nash-Miller-Buchnevich
Veses-Hayes-Grabner
Puempel-?-Fast

I don't think our 1C is here yet. I see another big move coming. I said from the beginning, if Stepan is traded .., there will be a move to get a younger, faster centerman who can make plays.

It's not a terrible move by JG and I'm beginning to believe a fair deal. If you look at it like this, Raanta for a former first in DeAngelo, probably better than expected value. Stepan for a 7th overall and we don't take any bad contract back at all, AZ gets him at $6.5 for 4 more years and NTC till he's 30. Maybe slightly less than expected value but the $ should be considered. I do think he's beginning to trend down and when you're retooling on the fly, it's probably the right timing for a trade like this.

No on Thornton
no on Franson
overpay 1 yr for Shatty

Nash at half for Anisimov hawks might go for given Hossa situation

we MUST bring back Smith, suggest 3 yrs
otherwise we lose the 2nd and 3rd round picks invested

He plays well, we can keep or trade to recover the investment

Aside from Duchene and Galchenyuk (who may not even be a center at this point) I don't even know who would be available. Teams don't typically trade youngish centers anymore, they usually get locked up.

Maybe there's a deal to be made for a player nobody knew was available.

Either way at the very least we need 2 more centers for next season. Wonder if they will try JT at center or maybe even considering moving JT for a center? Hm.

I have a weird feeling John Tavares will hit FA, now the Q is, do you want him at the age of 27?

I'll decide how I feel about this deal when I see what they do with the 7th overall pick.

Good luck to Stepan. Good warrior. Have to wonder how they shore up our depth at center now.

What depth at center? He's a good two way player but centers tend to win faceoffs here and there.

There in lies the rub ... he's going to demand Crosby type money. I also think Tyler Seguin could be available if Dallas goes full rebuild.

Crosby money is easy. 8.7 is the sweetheart of sweetheart contracts.

He makes so much from endorsements that he doesn't need a ridiculous contract from his team.

Faceoffs are overrated. Nothing more than a glorified puck battle.

Eh when you're under 45% constantly that's an average of a few more setups in your zone per game for the opposition, not great. This doesnt even touch on how slow as balls he is overall.
