Lindy was more proficient here than Step, IMO, if you allow for the fact he played injured. Better skater, closer checker, stronger, faster, and won FOs.

We will be okay with guys who skater better, etc, if they are motivated, and if not, they will not stay.

I think it would (edit - at least for a while, we all moved on from Leetch getting traded), but I'm pretty far removed from NYC :)
Personally I think it's a move that should have been made after the ECF loss to Tampa, but I can understand why it wasn't and I'm really not sure there's a market out there that wants that caplet going forward

it was a good trade. Lets be honest our fanbase whines about everything. They also probably expected stepan was worth larsson, the 7th pick, and more i guess :laugh:

yeah lindy was good defensively. but either way you cut it, they were still our 2 best defensive c.

yeah we'll be okay with guys who skate better and are motivated. but i dont see any here yet that play center.
 
I don't love this trade, but don't hate it either. Stepan's NTC kicks in soon; maybe NYR thought they got what they could from him on the ice. A lot of tread on the tires despite his age and he's not a speedster to begin with. DeAngelo gives them a dynamic on defence they don't have as long as he keeps his head on straight. Like getting the no. 7 overall pick (depending on wh they use it on!; hopefully a high end skill forward). Getting DeAngelo lessens the need to draft an offensive d'man early.

With the no. 21 overall pick they can take a flier on someone; BPA.

Yeah, not sure I like him either. Think he is a bit of a boring option compared to the others. A bit Stepan like lol.

But could be the best bang for the buck at 7. Mittlestad would be sick to get thoug....
 
I know I write a lot of crap, but I seriously think the Raanta loss is addition by subtraction. He is 27 and small. Get Benny a bigger younger guy to work with. We have a sick track record, sign with us and put in 1-2 years and you will be a starter somewhere. Or why not aim to challenge Hank. We will be an extremely hot option for the guys out there. Benny will do a great job with these guys. I wouldn't at all be surprised if we got someone we could move for a second rounder in 2 years again.
 
i spoke to my contact here in syracuse who's affiliated with the syracuse crunch- he's in management actually. my source is legit.

keep in mind, the owner of the crunch, howard dolgan, is a nyc guy and a longtime nyr fan.

anyway, as an fyi, i was told the nyr have had interest in anthony deangelo for quite some time.

this is a guy they really like.

Did he have anything to say about DeAngelo and character issues?
 
Baffling move by the Coyotes. Good luck to them and Stepan. NYR's continue to sell SUPER high on guys on their last legs and based on their track record, Deangelo will at least be a solid contributor for years.

I haven't studied the draft a bit but now I'm trying to cram on what they could do.

Looking beyond a single year (This move really doesn't hurt the NYR much at all for this year anyway overall. The improvements on D and through FA can easily turn this into a net positive) this is a fantastic move just as Brass for Zib was at the time. Just as Gab for Brass was. Just as Gomez for McD was.

Stepan was not worth the salary. Not in the slightest at all.

Raanta on the other hand im legit upset about. He was perfect for lundqvist.

Now we just need to trade holden to complete the shedding of all the dead weight.

yes.

he was moved due to "maturity issues" and was a healthy scratch alot. head coach decision. it was a mater of time. he's the classic "change of scenery guy"

enormous talent but needs to mature

he was trouble free in AZ.

hes a talented player for sure.
 
As far as the "attitude issues," you also have to consider that Tippett is the ****ing president of the Old Boys Club
 
Bottom line is that the DeAngelo pickup could be a really good one for the Rangers...if he keeps his head on straight and if AV loosens the reigns with him a bit. If he's treated like another Clendenning then what was the point
