You guys will enjoy DeAngelo. Very good puck moving odman. Has an edge to his game, too, which is rare for his size. All the talk of him being a head case is from his days back in Tampa. He was hard to see leave, that's for sure.

Good luck moving forward and hope the guy you want is avail at 7.

Interesting, thank you for the heads up!! :)

Deangelo is a good fit for NYR. His game and snarl are going to be admired here.

Boppob and I had an exchange about this a few months ago. Was only a matter of time Deangelo was traded again.

7th is nice. Hope there is a home run there.

Not the best return, but cap wise, it opens up a lot of possibilities.

Didn't want to post this until the trade was made, but the rangers had concerns about injuries with Step.

Guy is a warrior, played a lot of miles with injuries. Would not have been smart to keep him around long term.

Starting to come around on this trade a little bit but I still believe we should have gotten one more piece in that deal, especially if we are trading Stepan.

DeAngelo seems to be like Dan Boyle Jr. Same size, right shot--skill player with an edge but also a bit of an ******* to deal with.

Its a fair trade. If stepan was a all-star and had a few 60 pt seasons you probably get more

I'm beginning to see this from multiple sources too. I get the feeling that the Rangers were feeling that the miles on his body may limit him as he moves forward. The guy has played A LOT of hockey in his short career.

Whoever we get at 7th really determines how this trade will be viewed in the long run. Think this was a great time to move on from Stepan.

NYR need to trade Nash at the deadline as well. Could really accelerate this retool with the return from him.

With Stepan's name being floated for at least a week we have to assume we got as much as the market would pay for him today. I would hope that Gorton spoke with everyone that showed any interest in Stepan.

You know, I didn't really consider the mileage factor either. Just goes to show you I really overreacted today at this trade.

The more I see, the more I think it is good.

Here's a thought - The deal was supposedly done before the ED. Vegas took Lindberg and not Rantaa. The Rangers are now 1 pick behind Vegas. Gentlemen's deal to not take Rantaa an perhaps allow the Rangers the pick of whom they want, with the price being Lindberg?

You trade your 1C and get the 7th/8th best young piece back from the other team = you lose the trade.
we get it you hate the trade...however most agree its fair value trade. even Arizona wasn't too happy with what they gave up. As much as I liked stepan m kinda got tired of seeing our "top C" couldn't skate, win faceoffs, and hurt the powerplay

You also get the 7th best piece in the entire draft tonight.

And about $5.8m in cap room.

How many deals are made these days where one team clears that much cap space?

Agreed, the cap space freeing aspect to this trade can not be ignored. Opens up room for other moves. This is the type of league the Rangers operate in.

Excellent point. And one I've forgotten to mention in my responses. Yes he's 27, but there is a lot of miles on the tires. Not sure he's entering his prime. Not sure how long he'll be in it either.

If everything breaks right, #7 becomes what Stepan is. Way too much risk. Terrible trade.

I think this assumes Stepan will stay at his current level for the next 4 years.

We also must take contracts into account. Is Stepan a $6.5m player? How worthy is the young guy on his ELC through his whole developmental process?

Seems like slight understanding at first glance, but it's not too bad and they may not have been many/any other deals out there.

I have absolutely no confidence with this organisation doing something useful with a top 10 pick though :(
