This was what I was getting at. To come out and ask a stranger to donate part of a vital organ I think there needs to be 100% honesty in why. The only thing that is being said is "he needs it now or he will die". If it were a result of bad luck I think he would only get sympathy but if it were a case of reckless behavior I'm not sure he gets the same kind of empathy. There were his staff and doctors on the panel but anything about the illness was left to his actual doctors.
And that`s exactly why subjective empathy has no place in medical ethics. I understand that the general public can have a different perspective when it comes to these situations, but that`s why not everyone should become doctors or surgeons.
At the end of the day whatever caused the onset of his illness, or any other person in need of an organ donation, is irrelevant when it comes to saving their life.
