To be fair, it's kind of true that Bethesda keeps making the same game. Their RPGs all have similar design, a similar gameplay loop, similar grindiness, similar factions and so on. Each one feels very familiar, and I'm sure that that's by design. If you're going to spend $200M and over 5 years making it, are you going to try something new that could flop or play it safe and re-use the formula that made you a billion dollars on your last game? I'm enjoying Starfield, but it definitely feels familiar and comfortable, like I've played it before, much like watching a brand new Marvel movie gives you a very similar experience to every Marvel movie that came before it. I'm a little disappointed by that, but, on the other hand, it's a really good iteration of that tested formula that's still sucking up my time.

You cannot accurately judge a game like Starfield in 2-3 hours so forgive others for not taking what you say seriously.
You absolutely can. Like I said, it's basically the same game Bethesda has been making for the past twenty plus years. Besides, there is nothing special about Bethesda's games that you need to play them for many hours to determine whether they're good.

By the way, this may come as a shock to some of you, but live streams are a thing. That's why I said that I've "played and seen enough" of it to have a good grasp of whether the things I hate about the game get any better. They clearly don't.

This game would've been alright a decade ago, but it's incredibly dated and not in a good way.

I agree it is dated in a certain sense, but not "incredibly" so. There is a reason why these kinds of games simply don't exist outside of Bethesda to this day. The create your own character open world first person rpg type of game is still something only BGS does.

Watching people stream a game and calling it boring is also silly. It's not for you, that's fine.

Just found a rare modified lawgiver that does 222 damage, has whitehot rounds and gets more powerful the lower your health gets and is worth 21600 credits. That's... 4x stronger than any sniper I've seen in the game so far.

I agree that BGS has a style that they adhere to for almost all their games, where i disagree is the idea that they are getting worse. 30 hours in Starfield is pretty obviously a better game than Fallout 3 and 4 and personally I think its better than Skyrim as well.

Stealth is useless? Debating starting a new character to get better specs. Only 12 hours in so far.

Stealth is good. Just make sure you don’t take companions with you except potentially Andreja and make sure you take off your spacesuit if possible. I just did the entire Ryujin questline without killing anyone and it wasn’t too bad with lvl 2 stealth.

Find a chameleon pack or spacesuit or craft chameleon mods for your current stuff. It takes stealth to a whole new level. I was a bit disappointed in stealth before that. Now I love it.

You want at least 1 point in stealth just for the stealth meter.

I don't see much point in starting a new character. All that choosing a background does in the character creator is start you off with a point in 3 different skills. If you're thinking of starting over to, say, become a Beast Hunter, which starts you off with Fitness, Ballistics and Gastronomy, just put your next three skill points into those, instead. I've read that it's possible to unlock every level of every skill with a single character, so you don't need to worry about not maxing out what you want to max out because you started a different kind of character. Also, some of the traits (like Alien DNA) can be removed by a doctor for a fee and you can change your appearance for a fee by visiting an Enhance shop. In other words, even if you regret a choice in the character creator, I think that you should keep your progress and make changes to your current character when you have the chance.

This game is so amazing and just so much to do. There's honestly so much to do it's almost intimidating. Every time I try to start something, something else pops up, then I start this other quest, then just this one more thing to check out over here, and while I'm here I may as well do that, oh and that delivery has a time limit let me go do that, and hey I found something else....holy crap it's 7am and I have work in 30 minutes. That's how my nights have been going playing this so I'm honestly scared to even turn it on sometimes knowing my whole night is gone as soon as I start. Not sure how I'll ever beat this game.

Most I've been into an RPG game since probably any Mass Effect game out. I've always not minded Fallout but never near my favourites, Skyrim, Witcher, etc were all solid but haven't hooked me like this one where I just can't put it down when I start.

The questing does have an Ubisoft like rhythm to it, only it's not a map littered with quest or activity icons, but conversations you overhear or just wondering a bit off your path.

I think they need to bring some kind of land vehicle into the game...could be a mech type like the armors in Fallout or something to zip around the planets like the sparrows from Destiny.

Yes! I’ve said this so many times while running around planets, especially on ones with higher gravity that drain your stamina quickly.

We should be able to ride Vasco piggyback. He's already carrying junk for us like a mule. Let him carry us around, as well.

Add a vehicle of some sort and a mini map in the cities and this is pretty much perfect to me. I know some have directories but f*** me I don’t want to look at a directory to find the general store at new to me locations.

Been on a “main” story grind lately finding some artifacts and doing vanguard missions. I really thought money would be so much more of an issue than it has been. Sitting at like 800k with 3 ships to sell. Although I think I’m going to keep the mantis for sentimental reasons.

Wait I did forgot one more complaint - this game crashes an insane amount of times. Like every few hours for me it crashes or freezes. It has me paranoid and saving so frequently now. I know it auto saves and you don’t lose much but replaying the same part is annoying.

It has crashed a bit less on Xbox since the patch, hopefully that means they actually improved that and I’m not just lucky for now.

I'm about 20 hours in on Xbox Series X and I had one crash total. Hasn't been a problem for me. :dunno:

The maps are biggest complaint for me. Just got to Akila City last night and I spent so long wandering around looking for shops to sell my extra stuff haha. Like I'd get not having maps for new places and whatnot, but for established cities you should be able to have a map.

I dunno, I don't seem to have trouble finding places to unload my stuff. There's always a yellow kisok close to your ship that has 5000 in it, and the places I've been to have those Trade Authority places or easy to find mom and pop stores. Maybe once you're inside the city limits a store icon pops up on your compass so you can at least walk in the right direction?

Instead of opening the map every time you need to fly somewhere then fly right back, how about something like what GPS have that saves your recent locations or favorites? Have it be a little screen that pops out in front of your character while you're in the pilot's seat.

Love this game, but I'm a sucker for Bethesda games. I'm like level 45. Done a good portion of the main questline, but purposely didn't touch that for a long while. I'm torn on what to do, continue with the main quest line or go back to side stuff. The daily mission board stuff is kind of boring, but also helps you survey more planets.

I just wish we had like a compendium, so we know what planets/systems we've surveyed, and which ones we haven't. Same with plants, animals, resources, etc. This is the kind of game where you should want to explore EVERYTHING. Get a reward for doing such.

Also, hopefully something comes down the line to make outposts worthwhile. As it stands, they are convenient to have a bunch of resources in 1 place, but you can almost buy everything you need, so not much incentive to take the time to work on outposts, in my opinion.

Same here. Also only one instance of an NPC floating in the air. Happened in Gagarin. One guy standing in the air over a bench near a wall.

Last night, I was on a snowy planet, came upon a research station and saw an NPC floating in the air 5 feet outside the settlement window. I went up and talked to her and she said something like "It's nice to be inside in weather like this."

Also, about 30 feet away, there was a coil of electrical cord that was suspended in the air because whatever it was supposed to be on was missing. The research station was a procedurally generated location, though, and likely more prone to bugs.

The discourse surrounding this game just shows there are way too many young dudes who need real meaning in life. It boggles my mind that people out there actually simp for billion dollar mega-corporations like Sony or Microsoft - that's some real life Ryujin mind-control shit.

I'm way out of date on how Bethesda develops, but if they haven't changed things (and double checking they haven't) another thing in their favour is that rather than licensing an engine like Unreal Engine or whatever they build their own game engine and use that to make their game. The benefit is that then they package that engine up and give it to the user base to play with, which is where all the great mods in a Bethesda game comes from.

For the type of games they're going for I'll gladly take that trade off.

I was doing a delivery quest, i think it was taking a present to someone on Jameson for their birthday, and the quest marker spawned way outside of town. So I took the long walk to the quest marker and as I start getting a little closer I see the marker is way up in the sky. Then as I finally got near the quest marker I see the character I am going to deliver to starts falling from like 50,000 feet up in the sky.

They just dropped to the ground and stood there waiting to talk. lol
