Saving $100 is definitely worth it, but it’s going to be tough to resist paying for early access. If it wasn’t coming to Gamepass I’d definitely pull the trigger.

Same here. If it wasn’t coming to game pass 6 days later I’d definitely buy the $100 early access edition of the game. But with it coming to game pass on 9/6 I can’t justify spending $100 for 6 days.

What’s the point in buying game pass if I’m just going to buy the games Xbox is putting on there anyway? Games like StarField are how I justified the cost of game pass.

I'll still be playing in six months so the "savings" of GP is lost by then. The extra 30 also gives you the first big dlc.
If it was just an extra $30 I’d do it. But it would be an extra $100 out of pocket for me since I already paid for 3 years of game pass earlier this year and I can play StarField on game pass for free starting Sept. 6th.

The way I look at it, StarField is giving me $60 in value back of the $180 I paid for 3yrs of game pass. I don’t see it as the savings will be lost if I’m still playing it in 6 months. I look at that as part of the value of game pass. If it was only going to be on game pass for 6 months that would be different. But afaik it will be on game pass permanently.

I’m sure I’ll buy the DLC when it comes out though.

Ah, well if you're a GP holder I see your point, but I've been through the game pass library when i got my Series S 30 months ago and I didn't renew it, so I'd have to resubscribe. With nothing else on xbox I want to play in the next six months I'd literally be getting it for only one game. As I mentioned earlier, I've bought Skyrim multiple times, it's a game I go back to yearly, I don't see why Starfield would be any different. For me, paying for the game once instead of paying monthly for a service, it makes the most sense.

Yea, I was also gonna game pass it but the risk is that if it is good I'm gonna have to buy it anyway since I'll be playing it for a long time, and frankly I don't buy/play many new games so I can't justify GP beyond Starfield.

I just went to the Xbox app on my PC to start my preload, and there's an option to pay $35 and upgrade to the Premium Edition, I'm assuming because I'm a Gamepass Subscriber. Just a heads up. I'm probably going to do it. 5 days early and first DLC is worth $35 to me.

I did see that but I figured that was for people that bought the game on disc and wanted the extra stuff for 35, but it makes sense it would apply for GP people also

I took advantage of that Xbox gold to game pass ultimate conversion deal they had running for a while. You could convert up to 3 years of Xbox gold to Xbox game pass ultimate at a 1:1 conversion rate. Gold is only $60 a year. I bought the full 3 years of gold and converted it all to game pass ultimate. I dont think I would have subscribed at full price. But for what I paid it’s worth it.

I also used a bunch of Microsoft reward points I had saved (the free ones you get doing their daily tasks and searches) to get the Xbox gold. So it actually only cost me $15 out of pocket for 3 years of ultimate. And by the time I need to renew it I figure I should have enough Microsoft reward points to get another couple years for free.

Ooh! Interesting! Now that would be worth it. I’d pay $35 to get early access and the first DLC (which I assume will be close to $35 anyway).

Thanks for the heads up! I was going to wait to install it until closer to the 6th so I probably wouldn’t have seen that option.

Well thanks again @542365 ! I ended up grabbing the premium edition upgrade for game pass. It was on sale for 10% off. I actually used some of my free Microsoft rewards points to get $35 in Xbox gift cards so it didn’t cost me anything out of pocket.

Pretty smart idea by Microsoft to offer the premium edition upgrade for game pass subscribers. They got $35 extra from me because of it (and a lot of other game pass subscribers, I’d bet).

So I’ll be playing StarField starting this Thursday evening! Yay! 2 more days!

Yeah I would avoid any online discussion about this game aside from here for your own sanity. I have never seen so many people picking apart every detail of a game while rooting for it to fail lol

28.5 hours till early access
22 hours now!

I made sure I planned my day tomorrow so I will have time to start playing right at release.
I have the game installed and I’m ready to go! lol

Man I hope this game lives up to expectations.

Hoping this runs half decent on Series S
Same here, I'm hoping the reviews touch on that.

I usually go to bed at 8p but I'll make an exception tonight so I can make my character and maybe play a bit of the first mission. For character creation, I always use a preset for the visuals but I'll definitely comb over the background info, perks, and stats you get to choose. I'm thinking I'll just make it like my usual Bethesda character, high in lockpick and computers with rifles. I'll be disappointed if there isn't a glowing sword for melee lol

Middling reviews so far! Kind of shocked, but can't wait to check it out anyway.

The hype train behind this might be the biggest I can remember... maybe ever?

But yeah, while it's in the 80s, it still seems to generally be good, even though it's not up to what the hype train was.

Also, PC version not having an FOV slider is a non-buy until this is properly fixed.

This is a good review. Four people, all varying opinions. I think this game really will be what you make it. I would hate to have to mainline a game like this to get a review out.

ACG is the only review I care about. Mid to high 80s is kind of where I expected this game to land, which imo is very solid. Looking forward to this
