Online Series: Star Wars: Ahsoka (August 23rd)

Keep in mind that Filoni and Thrawn’s author, Timothy Zahn, have been working closely on the Ahsoka show
You'll have to excuse me for waiting to see that to believe it will be good in any way. Given the writing and character development/portrayals in the last (well) 8 years, don't have much confidence.

Just seems like another way to dunk on longtime fans by taken a very well written series of books, cherry pick the parts you want and leave out the 3 main and most popular characters who were integral to this story.

Again, to each their own. You can love it if you want, certainly won't begrudge you that. In the same vein, I can be very hesitant to believe it will be good and/or trash it if it turns out to be so. And that should be fine as well.

But who are we kidding. Been an internet fact for a very long time:: only one opinion is right, those that scream the loudest. That's not me.

They're not really red here but in the final shot of her in Rebels, which is a montage of where everybody ended up post ROTJ, her lips were darker than the rest of the series. I remember it because I was like "is she wearing lipstick" when I saw it.
Still doesn't really look like Hera in the trailer tho.

At least in the trailer depiction, it's just like a lazy cosplay. Green facepaint, red lipstick, and a couple big silicone pillows shoved in a hat. They don't even have her skin designs on her lekku (which also feel really out of proportion, but I guess that could be argued to be aging).

Honestly I think lekku, head tails, whatever, in live action have always kind of looked like pillows attached to somebody's head. I'm also not as concerned about getting the look right as much as I am the characterization. Live action Ahsoka looks different than animated Ahsoka, but Rosario Dawson does a great job of making it still feel like Ahsoka because she has the character and mannerisms down almost perfectly. If Winstead can make it still feel like Hera I don't really care if the look is off.

To me, I still see Rosario Dawson more than I see Ahsoka. I have no qualms with casting Rosario Dawson for the role, but I don't think I'll ever be able to bridge that gap.

In my dream world, I'd rather they did a story-driven video game to flush out Ahsoka rather than the TV show. Could be akin to Jedi Fallen Order. Let us play as Ahsoka and inhabit her journey, with Ashley Eckstein still doing her voice and visual design that doesn't have to compromise to figure out how to portray this in live action. It would also allow for burying Easter Eggs and lore and the richness of the world in a way that Star Wars rarely does on screen (where they love to shove Easter Eggs and cameos in your face rather than allowing them to be background details that nerds can obsess over).

About Thrawn's look from someone who saw the extended trailer and was looking straight at the screen, unlike the leaked trailer which was at a bad angle:

Best news of the day. I love Thrawn. I think we got a "Thrawn-lite" in Rebels and I was beyond enthralled to learn that Zahn has a lot of input in this show

I caught this callback:

- Ezra in his holographic message to the crew at the end of Rebels : “Sabine, I’m counting on you”…..Sabine: “to do what?”

- Ezra to Sabine in Ahsoka : “I’m counting on you to see this through “

Is it weird that I'm partially here for Chopper? I like the other characters and most of the actors (though as much as I like her I'm not sure I'm 100% with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera. Something about her just seems a touch "off". They never would've because she's not a "real" actor or a name, but it would've been fun if Hera was just Vanessa Marshall in live action just like in Rebels) but Chopper was one of my favorite parts of Rebels.

The timing of this is kind of fun because I'm in the middle of watching all the Star Wars stuff chronologically and right now I'm just in the middle of season 2 of Rebels. I'm hopeful that in a month I can get through it and the other D+ series and the OG trilogy so I'm lined up for this show's point in the timeline.

Also the first time I saw him I immediately thought that Thrawn looks like blue Elon Musk. now I can't unsee that and I hate that it's stuck in my head.
