Thoughts as I'm watching...
It's not a good sign for the rest of the episode when the very first scene has the overweight girl running a half marathon, stopping for a full minute near the end and then quickly making up all of that lost ground to win the race against more fit crewmates.
I thought that the Klingons looked silly before, but they look even sillier with these wigs and glued-on facial hair. It's amazing that they can spend $150M on the season and this is the makeup effects quality.
Why are view screens old-fashioned in this when it takes place before TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager?
This season is turning into The Search for Spock. How original.
Wait. Spock was in a mental institution and killed two doctors and escaped... and still got promoted to First Officer of the fleet's flagship less than 10 years later?
Well, it's over (I got tired of pausing to type out thoughts, so I just watched the rest uninterrupted to get it over with). After potentially the best episode of the entire series, that might've been the worst. Whereas last week mostly took a break from the overall story, this episode seemed to exist just to catch us up and relied on dialog heavy to do so (and, as I said last week, this show is really at its worst when it's heavy on conversion).
