Florida finished with 92 points, Ottawa with 86. 92 - 86 = 6 points

Not interested in the debate, but a look at the final standings is appropriate you'd think?
I responded to a post that was responding to a post saying “when they figured it out”. And it seems like they didn’t really figure anything out towards the end of the season.

But in saying that. f*** the leafs and f*** spezza

Bergevin played only 3 games and Krejci played 4 and were very ineffective in the games they did play. Compare that to the Leafs which had all their players available.
Same result a Florida W.

Guess they weren't coming back like you predicted.

They went 6-1 down the stretch and are in the conference finals but 'didn't really figure anything out'. This board is hilarious.

The leafs announcer forget his name was getting choked up on the radio. Such a beautiful sound

I did only what I had to do. No more. No less.

The 4 pts came from something I had posted, specifically that in the last 25 games, the difference between us and Florida was 4 pts, and that's in spite of us missing games from Chabot, Chychrun, Norris and both goalies while Florida was fairly healthy.

Most (actually all) of that 4 pts came in the last 8 games when we'd shut down Chabot Chychrun, I think Hamonic, and obviously Norris.
OK, well I looked at final standings versus partial season.

Watch how two high priced hockey players carry a team on their backs....watch McDavid and Draisaitil. They are excellent! Their compete level is far superior. Other teams are keying on those two players and yet they fight through the coverages and put up big numbers.
Matthews and Marner are far below the level of heart and desire of McDavid and Draisaitil.

Short answer for me is the guys need a coach, not a friend.

Funny to say as our team hasnt been in playoffs for 6 years but I cant believe the Leafs and their fans think they are winning anything built that way. Their defense is absolutely awful and they have way too much money on a couple guys up front.
Well it just goes to show you just how hard it is to win it or even qualify to play for it. Just because a teams gets the top pick or picks near the top in the draft for a few years does not guarantee anything if it isn't done the right way.

I feel as Ottawa finally has a good thing going with how things are in the dressing room and just the overall comradery the team has; coach included. Why mess that up ? If the team regressed performance wise and there were no set backs to blame I'd show him the door my self but for now that's not the case so I'll gladly open doors for him with a smile and a greeting.

A coach can very much be a friend. Obviously not a friend in a sense where you play video games with each other but for sure someone you trust and are comfortable with. Hard-assed and strict coaches are a thing of the past. That style of coaching has very short effectiveness. A coach can be strict and still be a friend. I feel its better to have that friend component than not. Would you play hard for someone that just demands, often hands out punishment and to you is just some strict a-hole behind the bench ? or someone that rightfuly demands, chooses discussion over handing out punishment and to you is not just your boss but someone you respect and are willing to do such ?

It really is amazing how terrible the goaltending is in the league these days. Perhaps we need to go back to regular sized netminders who know how to stop pucks and control rebounds, and lose these giants who only know how to 'be big' in the net.

We must get Brady into the playoffs next year. Look at how his bro terrorized Marner and Matthews. Lfg
If the sens add some speed and depth up front they should get in. Watching these playoffs its quite obvious what they are missing. It's not that hard a fix either. The D looks good the top end forward talent is good but they have very bad forwards after the first line when you look at this roster compared to who is left still playing.

Ding dong, the witch is dead! :hockey:

That was a tense one. I thought one thing Florida did really well was always being first to the puck after Bob stopped a shot. Did a lot towards the defence and goalie working in tandem to prevent goals. Maybe it's partially a diss of Toronto though too not being able to fight for those second chances

I’ll take Dubas here just because of the culture he has built in Toronto - I like what he’s done with their management team and how he sees the Leafs in the community.

As far as hockey goes he’s had a good team. My biggest criticism of him would be holding onto Nylander. It’s almost like Dubas did move away from analytics he was known for when he came into the league and then trough real NHL playoff defeats of his teams started to believe in the need for harder players but Nylander was the player that attached him to his analytics past. When he said he’d never trade Nylander it was a steadfast commitment to stability in a a very young core and that’s smart, but he should have said it differently. Everyone knows every player is available all the time at the right price, young mistake by a rookie GM and his biggest one that kind of defines him IMO. Also the way Nylander negotiated by in the media was a bit dirty and undermined Dubas I thought. But I’d still take him because I think he’s learned a lot about playoff hockey. I’d even take Keefe too TBH
