Whatever happened to let the players play?

The thing is there’s “let the players play” that can be used as an excuse to let teams interfere all over the ice, throw late hits, etc.

But the “let the players play” in this series is more just not wanting to see every tiny thing that could be justified as a penalty called like it’s some pre-season game after the NHL announced an officiating crackdown.

Trotz is gonna take his time I think. Shouldn’t matter if the Leafs lose in six or seven
You're acting like line management is going to make a huge difference? Every game this series has been won by the team with more heart/drive. I guess a coach can help fire up players but they need to fire themselves up.

Let's hope there is some shouting going on in Leafs dressing room

Nah. Most of the calls this series have been okay. Leafs got boned on one (which I could only tell on replay) and this one was chintzy.

There have been the odd bad call thats happened in the series but for the most part it’s been okay
You really think so? In 164 games the leafs and lightning combined for 1600 penalty minutes.

There’s been … 200 in 4 games? Over 164 games that’s ….. 8,200 penalty minutes.

I’m bad at math, but is that right? That’s not ‘okay’ that’s insane.

Can't blame refs when you can't even register shots on the PP. Either way, there's still 2 periods left, this game could go either way.

This game is over but I don't doubt their ability to win Game 6 because losing a Game 6 just won't possibly hurt as much as a Game 7.

They are going to lose in 7 and probably in a similar fashion to Game 5.

At least that was in the player's control. Calling 4 penalties a period turns the playoffs into a special teams contest.

It would definitely be a leafs move to win a gutsy game on the road and them come home to let us all down after getting our hope up.

The penalties have been warranted. Unless you want them to go extreme rules then, it’s gonna get called. Both teams have to be a lot more disciplined.

Last year the complaint was that they weren't calling enough. Now they're calling too much.

Tbh, I don't know how you find a happy medium. Either you let obstruction go or you don't. I do think the star players need to be allowed to do their thing, but this just ruins the flow of the game.

You have to pick one and stick to it until players adjust... But that means calling it the same in preseason game 3 and game 7 double overtime of the Stanley Cup finals.

You need to have a known consistent standard of what is and isn't a penalty no matter when it happens.

I subscribe to the "in game management and calling things differently at different times Is complete bullshit".

I don't care if they call things more tightly or more loosely, just always have it consistent.

I don't wanna see a team get called for a stick tap on the glove because that team is up 5-0 in preseason, but then won't call it when down 2-1 with a minute left in a playoff game because "the refs don't wanna decide the game"...but logic would dictate it's not the ref deciding the game. It's the player hitting the other player in the gloves with his stick that decided the game.

Leafs official uniform about to be a brown yard waste disposal bag if they don’t get their shit together.
