Pronger and Stevens would have to play vastly different in the NHL these days.

Of the top 10 in the norris voting this year, Ekblad and Hedman are the only two 6'4 or taller. Carlson and Slavin are 6'3, to be fair, but there are more defensemen 6'0 and under than 6'4 and taller. If you extend it out to all Norris vote getters, you're still left with Ekblad and Hedman over 6'4. Petro is 6'3. But then you add Faulk, Hughes, Spurgeon, and Weegar as 6'0 or less

Hedman is a better skater and nowhere near as physical as Pronger. He's only topped 100 hits once in his career.

He's still the modern equivalent in that that is what a modern Pronger would look like. If you're looking for the physicality, maybe Darnell Nurse?

Stylistically his defensive game is radically different. Nurse is closer. Ironically, Gudas might be closest (nowhere near as good, purely style), and he is 6'0"

Yeah, I was more thinking what a big bodied defenseman with good two-way skills would look like. Pronger (and Stevens) was a product of his era. Pronger would have played a lot differently if he grew up in this era, I'm sure.

Yea, but that was kind of my point. Those guys would have to change their style. So wishing for guys like that is kinda pointless when guys like that would be trying to play more like a lot of guys today.

I am personally 6'6" and my fighting weight is 255+. I am a big dude. I have met "big" pro athletes and dwarfed them. I had no future in sports because I am slow. So when people pine for big players, I know that it takes more than size. Maybe that is why I value speed.
