My mistake. I forgot that you were smarter than all of the coaches in the OHL who selected him in the coaches poll, as well as NHL scouts that drafted him because of his elite defense, as well as the Team Canada execs that also thought the same. What do those guys know anyways? Fans on a message board clearly have superior knowledge.

I don't think I've ever seen our fans absolutely f***ing hate a player as much as Allard. The league's hardest worker should be a fan favourite by all accounts. I just don't get it at all. The guy is awesome and just gets shit on by everyone.

You are the only poster here who insists on putting his value at pre WJHC level. Truth whether you want to agree or not is that he is nowhere close to the player since that tournament that he was before it. Add his health this year and he is just too much of a risk for a team to acquire. After the deadline, you get what you get. He gets hurt again and you can't replace him. The drop in play and health make him not the high valued asset you insist he CURRENTLY is.

An extra 6th round pick is far different than expecting a 6th round pick. That was very clear in my statement, you just chose to intentionally misinterpret it to make a point.

I was wrong about his skill level coming into this season. I didn't see such a vast improvement coming from Charlie, but I do stand by my point that Miller would be a lot better right now had he received consistent playing time. It's not clear that we gained more picks in a trade by waiting, given this extraordinarily weak return.

I would agree with you if every team had better OA's, but there are some bad ones out there if you look. Teams like Kingston and Brampton might regret their OA decisions come playoff time.

Do you think Flint is happy with Ethan Konyen? I doubt it, he's been awful. One of their fans even came to this forum and said it.

You can't just put on blinders and pretend that I'm wrong because you don't like me. I make mistakes and bad takes like everyone else, but this certainly isn't one of them. He's not the only example. Other teams upgraded their OA's today.

Now. So you’re saying if Hockey Canada selects you for WJC you’re absolutely one of the 20 best skaters in the country? Cool. I wouldn’t want Canadians complaining they didn’t take their best team to WJC as an excuse for a poor showing. Also if a player is selected in the OHL coaches poll that’s the definitive analysis? Ok. You do realize that over the last two seasons Ethan Hay who you’ve frequently disparaged as horrible has been named to the top 3 in Face-Offs, Defensive Forward and Penalty Killer over the last two seasons? You can’t have it both ways if you’re taking such a hardline.

It’s as close as we’re gonna get. I’ll take it. As long as we’re owning up, Kostov has been a bit better lately. We’re not there yet but it hasn’t been abysmal over the last few weeks.

I'm not saying that you're absolutely one of the top 20, but your certainly in the ballpark. They aren't taking guys who are even in top top 50 or anything.

The coaches poll isn't a definitive analysis either, but it does matter. I'm a little baffled as to why Hay is so high when he was easily Saginaw's worst player against the Hounds last year, but some coaches only see him once or twice per year, so I get it. The Hounds may just have something on him too.

I'm considering all 3 factors though. That's a smart way to evaluate anything, use a lot of sources and different points of view. What are the chances that OHL coaches, Canada's best hockey minds, and NHL scouts are ALL wrong and Allard is actually a shitty player that nobody wants?

I don't think he was ever available if it makes my feel better about Flint's situation. I know for sure that he didn't want to leave and while he didn't have a NTC, the Hounds usually respect that kind of thing.

I hope the McCue situation gets sorted out. Dale DeGray of Owen Sound has pulled this kind of stunt before and I'm surprised that any teams still deal with him.

He's scoring more points than he ever has and is far and away our best defensive player. He's healthy and playing at a high level right now. The facts in this situation are definitely not on your side. I'm never going to agree with an emotional stance that isn't based in fact.

No he wasn't one of the best 20 Jr skaters in Canada last year lol. Not even close. He was selected by HC to play in the WJC, sure.
Many non eligible and younger skaters in Canada were way more valuable to their Jr teams than Allard and he won't be a top 20 NHL player from all the Jr skaters in Canada. I could name ya 20 more valuable skaters to their teams in Jr from the O easily last year let alone Canada. Hyperbole doesn't make u right. It's ok that you were wrong.

Pump the hate brakes fox and friends. Let me maybe be clearer? I think Van steensel was the only OA forward traded this deadline? (I could be wrong of course, i can admit it). So the market just wasn’t there for Allard. That’s more what I meant.

As for me not being THAT impressed. That’s just my opinion . But would I have traded him for scraps? No. He’s definitely more valuable to have around. I have never once claimed to be god’s gift to hockey, and be smarter than the NHL and all of the scouts. Now you’re just really... One would say “splitting hairs”...

I think Allard might be the best skater in the OHL, 2 years in a row. Sometimes I don’t think he uses it to his advantage. Which could be a coaching issue, but that’s a whole OTHER debate

I'm not a person who is going to confirm if it doesn't align with the facts at hand, even if it makes me unpopular. If you want to have a good conversation with me, like many people do, then stick to facts and don't make it personal. I'm fully willing to say I'm wrong or change my opinion if you have a real substantive argument to make. PM me too if you ever want a free beer at the game. McParlan smh. They were never getting past round 2 no matter what but If you’re gonna trade Zurawski and try to go for it you gotta do more than poke around that’s for sure. Maybe the price was too high but I don’t think there was an available OA forward that would have benefitted Flint more than a healthy Owen Allard. Yes, health is an issue and maybe his development curve has flatlined a bit since last year’s WJC but I think he would have had a sizeable impact on the Flint roster. They’re weak down the middle, terrible at the dot and occasionally lack a sense of defensive responsibility. Hell, Owen brings more offensive ability than most of them too.

Oh yea! I caught ya. Stonehouse deal was definitely a weird one. Caught PetesUpdates off guard big time. Yeah.. It just seems like all of the heavy buyers had their OA’s locked in. I mean I looked at quite a few of the rosters, (Brantford, Flint, Windsor). It’s no doubt Allard would have been an upgrade. But they chose to stick with it, which is completely understandable.

I think with OAs there's a big team chemistry/locker room vibes piece too which means it'd have to be really worth the upgrade - pretty sure that was a big factor in Heyes staying for Kingston

That's positive news. He was well liked by fans for what he brought as a 17 year old and the only reason soo fans were ok with the trade was that it didn't involve Martin.

I hope he ties it all together down the stretch. You can't teach size and it felt like he was on the cusp of having a breakout season this year if he learned how to maximize it.

Pretend you're wrong? If you were right you'd be an ohl gm. Not an armchair wannabe that totally overvalues every hound player and trashes anyone else. Maybe other teams upgraded their rosters with better players. You said we would get 2 2nds and 2 3rds for him. We got nothing. And now you'll play the whole oh he wanted to stay so we didn't trade him. And I like him, but IMO he was not one of the best 20 skaters. If it wasn't an ohl coach from the western conference, i doubt he would have even been on the radar. And thats okay
hes still a good hockey player. Hell, if we took the best 20 skaters, we wouldn't have finished 5th. The thing is, everybody in the soo loves allard. And what he brings. But everyone else is realistic.

Most likely Raftis tried to move Allard, but offers were few and far between.
wasn't worth if for him to trade him. He would have basically had to give him
away. that's unfortunate. Hopefully by staying here he can help the Soo secure
7th or 8th place in the conference to atleast make the playoffs.
Only can see Raftis trying to trade Nordh today.
I would put in a pitch to Sudbury for Chitaroni and then at the draft , draft the
younger brother who is rated to go in the top 10.

I also don’t like that we haven’t gotten a single 2025 draft pick in a draft that I feel Raftis NEEDS to hit a home run in.
