What championship calibre goaltender have the Leafs employed since 2016?

Because here are the goalies who’ve beaten them:

Braden Holtby - championship winning goaltender.

Tuukka Rask x2 - two finals as a starter, one ring as Thomas’s backup, better career numbers than Price and Quick.

Korpisalo/Merzlevkis - fair enough, shouldn’t have lost to them.

Carey Price - arguably the best goalie of his generation.

Andrei Vasilevskiy - 2x champion, and the actual best goalie of his generation.

Sergei Bobrovsky - 2x Vezina winner, top-5 goalie of his generation.

Linus Ullmark/Jeremy Swayman - reigning Vezina trophy winner + the guy who took the reigning Vezina winner’s job.

And y’all wanna hold Mitch Marner accountable for Freddie Andersen being the best goalie Toronto has employed his entire career.

Spend some assets on a legitimate tendy, for Christ.

The Leafs haven't had an elite goalie since Belfour ffs...

It would be nice to have an elite guy between the pipes again....

And before Belfour, they had the most success they’ve had in decades with Cujo in net.

Toronto demands an all star goalie.

There is too much attention and pressure placed on the #1 goalie for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

So when you have a guy who isn’t actually good enough to warrant that much attention, even if he doesn’t realize it at first, eventually he will.

And then he will crumble.

It happened to Toskala, it happened to Reimer, it happened to Andersen, Campbell, Samsonov, and it’ll happen to Woll, because they all know deep down that they’re not that guy.

Toronto needs a guy who has supreme confidence in himself, and the maturity and composure to tell these fans to suck a lemon.

Yep, Belfour it's been awhile... Im one of those in favor of getting Saros!
Agreed. While the big players are in their prime give them the best scenario possible with a goalie like Saros.

I didn’t realize the inability to score goals in the playoffs was a result of their own goaltending.

Or…..
Tre is putting pressure on now so he has an answer and can say he tried.
This is our offer. Take it or give us a list.

Seems odd they would be aggressively pursuing an extension 1 week before UFA for a player 12 months out if they just want to sign him.

Or…..

You sure? I feel like I see this avatar a lot.
in leafs threads but usually they are public ones. when something bigger happens that when u will see in me the Leafs-message board.

No, he wasn’t.

Woll had a .907 save percentage and a GAA approaching 3 this year.

His career save % is .912.

He’s a nobody.

Get a somebody or don’t bother showing up.

He had terrible stats for a month when he came back from his high ankle injury, but was elite the first half. And found his game again in the playoffs. He had a .964sv% against the Bruins before he got injured.

Try watching some games

.964 in two games.

The guy has 34 career starts across three seasons.

Could he turn into a player, of course.

Is he the guy you want to hinge your championship aspirations on in the biggest fishbowl market in the sport?

I wouldn’t.

You really think you can’t do better than Joseph Woll?

You are going to have to find where I said anything other than he was elite but it was too early to declare anything. But in his sample size, he is elite

But he’s not elite - he’s Joseph Woll.

Jack Campbell played seven playoff games in 20-21, had a .931 save percentage and a 1.81 GAA.

Was he elite?

Edmonton's current run is proof that you don't need a World beating goalie to go far

Toronto simply need a "good" goalie, a solid defensive system and players that won't choke during the playoffs

Matthews and Nylander are fine, but Bitch Marner and Tavares are as soft as toilet paper, you can't have 25% of your budget allowed to absolute ASS playoffs performers

Its easy to say *who needs a goalie* when you have a guy going Lemieux/Gretzky on everybody though....

No, they need an elite goalie because their insane fans will break anyone who isn’t.

The Leafs lost five straight game 7s (with a game 5 in there during Covid) because their goaltending can never steal them the one game per series they need.

In every playoff series Toronto has lost since they got Matthews except Columbus, they have had the inferior goalie.

McDavid/Draisatl, as good as they are, and they are really f***ing good, ain't playing on all four lines

Edmonton doesn't have the best defense ever, but they have a good system

I hear you, but again, Skinner being in the final disapprove that IMO

Edmonton isn’t Toronto.

Just read this thread.

Now imagine that but with 5 million people.

Edmonton are a bunch of dorks, but they’ll back a mid guy and fight to the death on a lie if they think it’ll help the team win.

Toronto waits for the Leafs to fail because they’re happier being victims than winners.

And mid goalies can’t handle that.
