The fact that Dubas hires Spezza as his first GM/AGM in Pittsburgh just shows how favouritism is once again at work with Dubas, not unlike how the Sault Ste Marie connection unfolded in Toronto.

Based on the Toronto Media it would appear that Pridham does not want to leave his Toronto job. But I won't be surprised if others in the front office (Wickenheiser, Hardy, Metcalf, Wes Clark) will be chosen as the GM of the Penguins. Making a splash with the first female (lameduck) GM seems to fit his way of doing things.
Just wait until Dubas has the entire Pit media in his back pocket. Then the fun really begins.

betting his first interview in Pittsburgh he will explain his greatest strength is his "ability to connect with people" or "ability to understand feelings". Seems to be the most popular catchphrases for the new corporate-speak sweeping the nation. And about as impressive as saying your strength is "ability to walk" or "ability to breath" or some other thing every human does on a regular basis.

Spezza and Dubas can GTFO.

_________

From my understanding Shanny didn't renew Kyle's contract due to Kyle's proposal for more money and asking for Presidential powers. Moreover Shanny felt that Kyle was unsure of his dedication to being TOR's GM due the reference to his family struggles.

I think deep down Shanny felt betrayed. Kyle knew all along that he was going to PIT. Shanny went to bat for him so long. Moved on from Hunter/Lou. All to have Kyle demand more money and be President of hockey operations (lite).

f*** Spezza. He wants to follow an ungrateful fraud like Dubas to Pittsburgh? He's in for a shock when he discovers how few scruples Kyle actually has.

Good riddance.
Classic shouting at the clouds. Ya gtfo! There's the door! Don't come back! And stay out!

At this point is there anyone left who doesn't think the Team is now better off with Dubas gone?

I don't see a ton of people leaving like people are claiming. I think Wes Clark probably stays. I could see Wickenheiser staying, becoming the first Female GM in Pittsburgh or leaving hockey to practice as a physician now. I don't think Pridham leaves either, he's a Shanahan hire.

He did… he literally said in his press conference he’s comfortable taking over the GM duties and he will take over them in the interim. They will decide in July/August whether the organization needs a GM in the traditional sense.
I don't think he would hired Spezza as AGM, doesn't the GM do that not the president.

It couldn't possibly be that he thought Spezza was doing a good job, that is impossible.

Spezza playing the game well so far, betting Dubas was a good move. We'll see if he really knows the game if he jumps ship at the right time as Dubas is almost certainly headed toward failure in Pitt and you don't want to go down with him.

I highly doubt that.

This is off topic but since no one has ever mentioned it I think it should be mentioned. There is a shared cost by our governments to pay for the education of medical students. A medical school graduate who does not practice medicine in some form or doesn't work in research is a waste of that education especially considering how limited admission to those schools is.

I don’t think Dubas lied about the family part though. I think both are true. I don’t know for fact, but it’s probably very likely that his family may have said. Listen you can probably do this job in another market that is less stressful and where they will trust you to make the decisions. Coming home this stressed is affecting our home life. If they want you back then you need to be paid more and have a bigger role to make it worth it. Otherwise you’re better off working somewhere else where you’ll be better appreciated and happier.

I personally believe that was the conversation he and his wife had and I don’t see a problem with that. Again I’d love to hear Kyle’s side. But just from doing some research I think that’s the most logical scenario. I think things in the last year were contentious at certain points between Dubas and Shanny.

A lot of people like to think the Maple Leafs job is the best job in the world and you’d be dumb to leave it. I don’t think all GM’s think like that. It’s a great job/opportunity but there’s 30 other places to work and you could be happier in at least 20 of the other places.
Huh? Really? Have you been to downtown Pittsburg? The family discussion was probably more like him convincing her to leave Toronto and living in a dump of a city, leaving family, friends & kids schools etc...because he'd make 50% more $ and be head honcho. At the end of the day its always about $...

Go into your direct superiors office the next time your contract is up and when they ask what could be done better at the company respond with "well....I could have your job". It is pretty obvious why Shanny canned him really lol

He will live in a beautiful 12,000sf mansion with indoor pool, gym, theatre. She will have a driver if need be and staff to keep the home. Slip for the boat at the marine and will attend the high end restaurants. The kids will be in private or boarding school.

Trust me, zero you know whats will be given and weekends in NYC are a call away.

What's much less obvious is why Shanahan still has his job. I hope we don't hire George Parros next. He has similar "qualifications".
If we hire George Parros maybe we'll stop getting the short end of the stick in terms of supplemental discipline and refs?

Ah, who am I kidding, they'll find some other morally bankrupt bozo

If you believe Shanny an extension was in the works for at least a month. If anybody was waiting around it was Shanny while Kyle planned his best et tu brute ??
Very true. The Pittsburgh rumour was around for weeks, and it's part of Shanahan's job to know what's going on in the league and especially regarding his own people. He really mishandled this.

I remember when we hired Dubas

We had all this talk about getting away from the "old boys network", how we were going to be forward thinking, merit and process based, how we were going to diversify into a new untapped pool of talent to drive the organization forward

Instead we became one of the most nepotistic organizations in the entire league
You're from the Soo, come on down
You're close or have a relationship with Dubas, you're our guy

Same ****, different packaging

For sure, Brendan Shanahan suspended Lupul for his "headshot" on Hedman.
