What would I rather have?

A) Mitch Marner at 11 million

B) Panarin at 12 million plus 4 first rounders each of which can be as good as Mitch Marner

Most of HF would unironically prefer option B
people over estimate the offer sheet. Toronto wouldn't even think twice about not giving marner 11aav. it would have to be about 20% of cap for them to think about letting him go. which is why offersheets don't work. who would be willing to give up 20% of cap and 4 1sts. not to many teams.

Why would he come down anytime soon? He sets the price and let the market play out. It takes one GM wanting to add an elite top line player and he has his money. He is going to end up around 11 million without a doubt.

Because I don’t think any GM thinks he’s worth McDavid money and I don’t think he’ll get it. If you think he’ll get $11 million per year, he most certainly came down and met there.

If he stays at an asking price of a $12 million AAV and doesn’t come down, I think he’s going to be waiting for a while before realizing no GM is going to give him that. I love the player but that’s a couple million too much.

And cue everyone going crazy by mistaking an asking price for a line-in-the-sand salary demand

Panarin asks for 12M+ hoping to get 11M, which is probably fair market value.

Build a team like the Raptors, not the Warriors. Why would you pay this much for a player who has never got past the 2nd round in the playoffs. Kucherov got 9.5 and I know he was a RFA, Radulov got 6.25 2 years ago and the cap went up by 7-8M.

10M for a 5'11 winger who hasn't got past the 2nd round and only contributes offensively is a good way to ensure never winning a cup again.
