Well, my sources are telling me that Panarin wants 9 million a season. So my question to you, is who are you going to believe, me or Dreger?

I don't have any faith in Dreger, but I have to believe Panarin is asking for more than $9 mil... he'd be leaving money on the table otherwise.

He isnt worth remotely close to $12M+. Let's be realistic here. He had his most productive season statistically and wasnt close to the upper echelon players in production. This is more so true given that the cap is relatively stagnant. Even as an ask that is high. In reality, based on his career production, he is worth $9-10M at most.

I wonder what McDavid would get in this current market. $17.5M+?

I actually don't like the bolded.

When a guy like Stamkos or Tavares was a pending UFA - i was "all-in" on those guys. Consistent track record - we've seen them hang in the NHL since 18, still young, lots left to go.
I personally don't like that Panarin has a much shorter track record at the NHL level. I feel more comfortable about a player like Tavares lasting the full 7 years as a top player than I would Panarin for that reason.

I think if Panarin had started at the NHL 2-3 years prior and we were here - i'd be more into signing him. Maybe that's just me
You talk about Stamkos but with his injury history I would take Panarin over him easily. Plus I feel like we've seen the best of Tavares and Stamkos and I think Panarin can still get better.

That bridge burned

Why? His contract was over so he could check out UFA. Its not uncommon that they do that and then just go back. Grass isnt always greener. Plus Columbus might be able to offer more than some other teams do.

Yes a 1st round pick becoming as good as Panarin or Marner is as big of a stretch as a 7th round pick, good job very nice. None of Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Noah Hanifin, Ivan Provorov, Zach Werenski, Timo Meier, Mikko Rantanen, Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor, Thomas Chabot or Brock Boeser who are all from the first round of the same draft are in the same galaxy as Mitch Marner and would not make up the difference between him and Panarin

So 11/30 picks were like Mitch Marner, great! But I don't think it makes sense to include top 10 picks into the equation (which most of the players you listed were drafted from) because it's a very safe chance that the team signing Panarin won't ever be in the position to draft a high-end talent like Marner. The chances of a late first becoming "as good as Marner" aren't nearly as optimistic as you insinuate.

A stand needs to be taken at some point not every player averaging a Ppg should be getting 10 million plus dollars. Especially when there are like 50-60 players who averages a ppg per year. Mitch marner a guy who's barely been in the league wants 12? Panarin thinks he deserves Connor Mcdavid money? I hope GM's don't give in and they sit.

These guys getting paid are going to screw over all the good role players. Teams are gonna be composed of like 3 guys making 12-15 million dollars then a bunch of dudes making peanuts just to fill out a roster.
You want people to take less money so that other people who are worse at the same job can make more money?

Wow...push NYR out of the UFA market. Who can pay more than NYR? TOR? They are up against the cap already...

Teams with more Cap space? New York didn't have More than alot of teams. They just signed trouba too so id say they are out on panarin

I'm more referring to how strange it sounds that of all teams, the big money NY Rangers can't sign someone. It just sounds weird.

Hahaha agreed. I don't know who's gonna win these sweepstakes but that's alot of cash to pay panarin
