After making so much fuss about getting a 2C?
Kinda need to get a C of some variety.
I see them more likely than to use #8 to target a player like McTavish. Carels would have a lot of popular momentum, never mind the kid is an absolute stud. I think he would be the overwhelming popular choice in Manitoba and something the organization could really market especially to rural Manitoba. Personally I’d pick him if we were #2.

I think fans are in a frenzy but what I'm seeing is New Jersey stacking some chips to get Hughes if Minnesota doesn't get off the ground.

San Jose and St. Louis are in great positions to make big trades with the chips they've stacked.

Anaheim doesn't look like a team trying to stack more chips. They probably move one of their young defenseman for a proven RD. Mc Tavish for a player. The rebuild is over in Anaheim.

Chevy is good at doing these type of deals so if there is one to be had he will get it done. If Helle doesn’t move its because the market wasn’t right or we didn’t get enough teams to work with.

I have no idea how it will go, I could see Chevy making a good deal (like he as done in the past), or I could see nothing coming together.

As a Hockey fan this day is awesome though

I lurked the Sabres boards. They unanimously want to draft with 4 OA and unanimously don't want Hellebuyck in exchange for it.
I really hope UPL lets them down next season, I will laugh my ass off just like I did at the Devils when they refused to cough up the coin for Helle.

Imagine not wanting Hellebuyck when you have more than enough assets to cover a trade without skipping a beat not to mention exiting your rebuild after 50 decades of darkness instead of drafting more young talent that is not NHL ready, f***ing stupidity.

As the old saying goes. If GMs acted like fans they would soon be fans and not GMs.

That might not be a bad idea for us. McTavish could fit well with Cole and give us 2/3 of a young second line.

Yes... hoping for a completely futures based package for Helle. Would jump on Helle trade involving the Chicago pick, would get buddies to help pack his house and drive him to the airport!

The 2C stuff here is missing the forest for the trees. In 2 years we are gonna need a 1C. Trying to get a 2C is fighting the last battle, when we need to be looking at the next battle. Lundell is gonna be useless in a couple of years when Scheifele ages out 1C impact. Unless the Jets believe that Lundell's peak is a 1C rather than a Bryan Little clone who is better defensively but worse offensively then I don't think that is the best trade outcome for Helle.

Minnesota is the prime example of how little a 2C matters when you want to win a playoff round, and how much a top defensive pairing does.

Montreal who beat Buffalo are example number 2.

The Jets have 3 more drafts to find a franchise center before Scheif ages out. As long as he doesn't take a beating which is another story. Next year's draft looks better by many accounts.

Trading for futures with the defensive core hanging in the balance would send the wrong message to the room.

I think it has to be a mixed bag. Help now, help later.
