My hunch is Hellebuyck was never on his way out. Fun to speculate, but he just signed a significant extension with the organization, so he must be happy.

There was the drama around the Olympics, but it would be hard to believe that was enough to sour him enough to demand a trade.

So just a year early then. And they received a high 1st round pick + out of it, instead of losing him for 0 going forward. Nothing. Can still make moves right now to fulfill a top 6 Fwd Spot if they wanted to.

I have as much confidence that they'll be able to make moves right now for a top 6 forward as I do that the Jets can, ie. almost none.

well ignoring NMC and the brother connection thing, 8 overall should be able to land us a pretty nice player if we were to trade it based on that value. 8 + Boum (late first rounder) would probably get it done for someone in that Brady/Larkin tier

You can't ignore NMCs. Players in the Brady/Larkin tier have that kind of thing.

Dont see it on puckpedia?

You are right, Mikkola has no trade protection.

That's a possibility for sure

Don't be surprised if the returns for those guys (amd Helle) are young roster players

I'm all in favour of a mix of young roster players and futures. It should, if done right, accelerate the retool (instead of full rebuild) and also spread the ages out by a few years so you don't have everyone age out at the same time later on, or everyone demanding the big money all at the same time.

As opposed to 2 home playoff games and less assets next year and being a year behind replacing him.

Is it one or the other? At some point, your team that has been out of the playoffs for a number of years with a younger group needs to start getting in consistently. I'm not sure where this attitude amongst fans began where if your team is not going to contend for a Cup this year, you should just sell everyone off and tank for a few years. Ottawa did the tank strategy, got Tkachuk, Sanderson, Stutzle, Batherson, Grieg, Cozens and they are now more likely to miss the playoffs again than make it yet again. I'm sure all these younger players will be more than understanding that they'll be taking a step back again to "retool".

The Hellebuyck deal fell through. That's why Sameskovich was dealt to Seattle and he didn't want to sign there.

I mean it'd still possible but Lundell and Mikkola along with many 2nds may have to head Winnipeg's way. But it's looking like if he is traded now it'll be the Golden Knights. Florida has almost no assets left to trade.

Fans love f***ing with other peoples' money

A full "tank" here could result in a pit that the franchise could never dig itself out of

TNSE will perpetually try to ice a team that tries to sneak into the playoffs

If people don't like that approach, they maybe can find a different team to cheer for

And what does Vegas have to offer?

It’s not like they just traded Brady for the hell of it or because they wanted draft picks.

It was an open secret that he was angling to play in the States and wasn’t going to re-sign when his contract expired in two years. Did Ottawa really have the horses to be more than a wildcard team and first round fodder next year?

Sure, you can try to bank on your goalie getting hot and maybe going on a run, but apart from that they realistically weren’t going to be doing anything anyway.

If you know you’re far off from winning, and you know Tkachuk is leaving soon anyway, what do you gain from holding on to him until he walks?

And that completely ignores any of the PR/political distractions that were gonna be there this year no matter what your thoughts on politics are.

It's just copium.
Ask any Sens fan if they'd rather have Brady walk for nothing, or a top 10 pick+

OK and if they do still have a top 10 pick+ out of it rather than nothing.

There was no doubt he was the next to be moved to the States, wont be the last either

That's what I was saying, would be f***ing hilarious
.845 is just a few notches below helles .866 over a year ago tht was followed up with a bad regular season this year,I can't see Panthers wanting to give up alot and find out helle may not be a playoff goalie that has 6 years of. Contract left,I can see them making a pitch but it won't include Lundell never mind a Lundell plus, brady only cost them one top 10 pick and a 25 and what may be another 25ish pick, helle is not bringing back what some sem to think, personally I feel the Jets will get a first from a team but stranger things have happened.
