With Friedman saying on NHL network that it's highly unlikely Bob is re-signing with FLA it makes me curious, if they aren't giving up Lundell then who are they going after and what are they paying, I cannot see Zito just grabbing some middling net minder and hoping for the best.
WTF are they up to?
Unless they're using LTIR, they have around 7.1 in cap space without a #7D and both goalies. The D-man gets a million or so, which leaves 6.1 to sort out both goalies. I'm assuming Tarasov stays for a modest raise.
None of
Binnington, Gustavsson, and
Markstrom fit without retention. Hill is probably not an option with the term he has. I don't think they have the assets for Wallstedt. Gibson is a shout, but I don't think Detroit is a seller here. The UFA class has Bobrovsky and then nothing that looks like a reliable starter.
Good trade options include
UPL and Daccord (might require a player swap to make the cap work), and possibly
Kochetkov (risky, but potentially viable as a starter). It is not a guarantee that Daccord is even available yet, as Seattle would probably want to see Kokko perform a little more before deciding on their goalie future.
So, if it's not Helle for Lundell (funnily enough, the cap doesn't work without one of Mikkola and Lundell coming back now) and Bob really leaves, then they're down to an incredibly limited number of potential goalie trades. The saving grace is that they can get one of the likelier ones done with picks 40 and 48 (in bold above), but none of them come remotely close to replicating Helle's body of work. If I was Zito, I'd look at Markstrom with retention, as his track record is quite stable across multiple teams and rosters.
