Next collective bargaining the players will demand more roster spots on certain U.S teams. All the Canadian teams will have the higher draft picks, develop them and then trade them to those teams once they get good.
We lost Brian Mullen and Dave Christian that way.

90s were pretty cruel to Edmonton and Calgary. Took all their stars. Until Iginla became one.

But this new model is different.

Florida has 3 players on their roster that they drafted.

Vegas I think it's 2 from the same draft as Heinola.

Carolina had 6.

Jets finished the season with 9. And that's after losing Ehlers, then Stanley.

I think the writing is on the wall for US born players.... They don't want to be on CDN teams. They want to go to the big 3 city's with low taxes and no one knows who they are. Now that we see Chucky, 100% dictated that trade. From the Olympics to the crap he says on podcasts, you gotta know their is a huge amount of them that see this and think "well, that's a great idea" the NHL is going to turn into Baseball.....

Joke league.

Just wondering why do ppl think Toronto is trading Knies for 8th Overall?
They need to win this year otherwise Matthews demanding to go back to the US next year.
Just signed Raddysh big money, doesn't strike me as rebuild move.

There was a report, I believe Chris Johnston, that said the Leafs would be asking for a top 10 pick in return for Knies. I agree it doesn't make much sense, but that's where the discussion came from.

And basketball and footy. Granted in the NHL the rich teams are mostly in Canada. So its a bit of a lopsided order.

Next CBA might have some major changes if Florida dominates for the next 4 years so we should be welcoming it. Maybe we'd get some changes.

Haves vs have nots, until more of the haves suffer due to the imbalance nothing will change, theres a reason Canada teams haven't won a cup in so many years, its not just bad management its big imbalance in the CBA

They also get unwavering support. Why change when fans will show up regardless of what you do? Threaten some relocation every once and awhile when fans get a little unruly and just keep doing the bare minimum to get those 2 home playoffs games and rake in the dough.

I know it's sour grapes because we're a small market team, but the next CBA needs to have something to tweak NMC. Maybe if the player requests a trade it invalidates it or something along those lines. This stuff must be pissing the GMs off (minus the few who are benefiting from it) and the GMs are connected enough to the Owners/BOG members to make something happen.

I guess you aren't a business owner lol

It's entirely possible that TNSE's business plan drives their management philosophy

Like it or not, I have a feeling that Chipman would rather be perpetually pushing to sneak into the playoffs rather than ever tear it down and rebuild

Player entitlement is getting a bit much, they def need to do something to crack down on these players demanding out and stating they'll only play for a handful of teams

Mark my words right here and now the rebuild is coming whether old Chippy wants it or not. We'll see how much that unwavering support holds when we are in a forced scorched earth in 4 years with no extra picks and a barren prospect cupboard.

Honestly maybe we just need the euro sport model. Do away with drafts and let players pick where they play from the hop. Maybe make hockey a pro/rel pyramid where the teams who could be in the mushy middle don't have the wrong idea about their place in the league. You're here to develop talent for the top teams and maybe every 25 years you hit lightning in a bottle but more than likely not.

The NMC transitioning from “I like playing here and I want stability for my family for the next 6/7/8 years” into a “you’re going to give me this so I can’t be moved BUT if I decide I want to move I get to choose where” is going to kill the parity in the league.

We'll see

No idea what you mean by "unwavering support". We already see support "waver" a couple of years ago, and that was with a team that is WAY better than what you're suggesting they do to themselves

Drafts and prospects might turn your crank, but a majority of people who walk through CLC doors don't give a f***

I'm wondering how many players the Jets can get 200 games out of from the 2022 draft. If DiVincentis is the last one would be a win for the franchise.

I think Yager plays 500 as a Jet and I think Winnipeg will maintain an allure as a Western Canadian city as not being a huge culture shock leaving for bright lights, big city, closer to home. That's the ticket imo.

Scheif, KC and J Mo are worth the price of admission.

15 years in and we have kept the bulk of our superstars until time ran out on them.

The younger generation might be harder to keep around especially if organizationally the Jets remain committed to slow cooking their prospects.

That's why I said we'll see how it lasts. It likely won't. The pain is coming.

What turns my crank is building an actual contender instead of pretending we can compete when we clearly can't. Or being okay with mediocrity.

I feel like people pay to see a winning team, and they pay to see superstars. On our team or theirs.

Best spot to find superstars is at the top of the draft.

The idea that exciting young players and hope dont sell tickets but playoff races with no hope of a cup do? It's an opinion thing and I dont agree with that at all. I could be wrong but I dont think I am?

I know the Jets likely see it differently.

I’d like to see a compensatory pick system for the teams listed most on NTC/NMC lists. Maybe after the 2nd round, picks 65-70. Something like that.

We've built a decent culture here but its not a winning one. If the goal is to win a cup we are going about it in the most roundabout way we possibly can while trying to avoid the thing the vast majority of Cup winner eventually go through. Pittsburgh, LA, Chicago, Boston, Florida, Carolina, Tampa, Washington. All went through heavy deep rebuilds that in some cases took only a few years and others took a decade+. Only Vegas and St. Louis bucked the trend.

The path we are on is going to get dark.

Personally I don’t care two shits about superstars, I only care about work effort, good attitude, being competitive and winning. Yes not always easy I admit, but just saying I don’t care about ever having a top 5 type player, I just want to win.

flip the core now at near peak values to dive in to a 3-4 year rebuild or ride the core into the sunset until a 5+ year rebuild is forced on us. Depends how much you value a couple of potential playoff years with likely middling results I guess.

Simple answer is to make a no movement clause mean no movement.

If you sign one as a team or a player, you’d better be damn sure you want that because the only way out of them is to buyout the contract or the player retires.

Today a “no movement clause” really just means “this small market better win or I’m going to either become a locker room cancer and/or demand to be traded and only to one other place”

You can't build a true contender in this market. Look what happened today. It will only get worse

f*** Vegas. f*** Florida and Tampa too.. Gary has built his Southern legacy I can't wait until these teams hit rock bottom with us...

Jets have to build through the draft every year, and Chevy knows it.

I am optimistic it's 3 more drafts before the star power of Scheif, KC and J Mo begins to fade. Getting a beast mode Adam Lowry back would go a long way. Perfetti, Samberg staying along for the ride.

In those 3 drafts Chevy should be working towards multiple picks. To build the next core. I'm really hoping this is the draft for a top pairing defensemen.
