@RangerBoy

I dont think Buch would have settled on a 1yr deal. He got what he was looking for from the Blues and IMO, NYR didn't want another Zuccarello situation.

Buch wasn't too upset it seemed, at leaving either. I think player and team got what they wanted out of it even if the compensation was a little shy of optimal.

Buchnevich would have filed for salary arbitration. 1 year contract. The award would have been for one year.

Niku would have been a good piece of the Hayes deal

Too bad they can’t go back and ask for Appleton instead of fat boy Lemieux

Didn't seem too upset? There were reports teammates were extremely upset, Buch was clicking like on all these posts saying not to trade him, his profile picture is still himself wearing Rangers gear (even though he's very active on IG) and he's still wearing Rangers clothing & gear around. He looked miserable in his interview with the Blues, looked miserable in general at that tournament he played with Panarin, and he's still hanging out with Panarin and Shesterkin during the summer.
He always looks miserable, though.
frankly I think the Rangers did Buchnevich a huge solid finding him a perfect landing spot. Maybe his ‘ideal’ was to stay in NY and get paid but that wasn’t happening. And instead of holding him hostage til the deadline - when they probably could have gotten more than they did - they got it done and dusted before anyone had to sweat.
Not saying I’m for sure right, but this is how I read the whole situation.

A thread worthy of reading...

I don't know how much of this is truthful but still...

That said, aren't we stacked with D prospects already? So who cares about Niku, get us a C.

Great thread. Exactly why I keep saying to give Gauthier a shot in a scoring role rather than forcing him to play a grinder’s game. I’m hopeful Gallant doesn’t fall into that trap.

I mean i think we all want that, but where exactly does he get those scoring role minutes?

Thank you. Beat me to it.

And also — cmon with the 21 points in 21 AHL games as being the credibility for a promotion. They played against the same 4 teams in a shortened season. I am not saying it is completely meaningless, but lets not like he has nothing else to prove or nothing else to work on. He needs work at the Center position. What good does it do to play 6-10 minutes on the 4th line??? Yes I would rather watch Barron play over Rooney. I don’t really like Rooney at all. I think as the season went on he got a lot worse and looked like the NHL/AHL tweener he is. However, I would much rather do what is best for Barron’s development and future than what is best for mine or the rest of the fan base’s personal needs.

Having watched Barron all season in the A I think he could play some games in the A this year but unless they suddenly ask him to radically change his game, there really isn't a ton for him to learn down there. Towards the end of the year he was getting pretty darn consistent -- which is what you look for. I think Barron needs to play a bunch in the NHL this year for him to keep developing. He needs to work on adjusting to speed of NHL. He needs to work on faceoffs, and things of that nature. Most of, if not all of, what he needs to learn right now to round out his game is found at the NHL level. So, we'll see. I think he's more ready than Laf and Kakko. And in a similar spot to where Chytil was when he came up and stayed up. He's right there. So, they will need to find NHL time for him this year. But he could split time. He is the same age as Chytil right now. 22.

Niku isn’t very good at all. Best case you have Erik Gustafsson without the 60 point season. However I do think Appleton breaks out with Seattle, he would’ve been a good piece to go for

So, Gauthier seems likely to start the year in Hartford at this point, that's interesting

IMO there's no way Barron spends the entire year in Hartford. Once he makes the team, that PB counts.
I’ve been saying this for months. But the naysayers just want to stick him in Hartford because there’s not a roster spot available. He can walk into a 3rd line role right now...
Odds are this is our big kid 3C for the future ( next 5 years hopefully) he needs nhl minutes. He doesn’t need to go back to the Wolfpack to score a PPG. That’s not going to be his role on the rangers

keeping strome is arguably going to Indirectly hinder chytil s chance at top 6 mins and Barrons roster spot on 3rd line. Not to mention keeping LaF off the PP. stromes value isn’t going to get any higher then it is now. I get people want to keep him as a safety net in case chytil fails. But if your not going to give minutes/opportunity to the guys and stromes not a long term solution, there’s really no point in keeping him here. Faster we find out what chytil can handle and how Barron progresses, the better off we’ll be in the long run. Rant done
