Great thread. Exactly why I keep saying to give Gauthier a shot in a scoring role rather than forcing him to play a grinder’s game. I’m hopeful Gallant doesn’t fall into that trap.
Gauthier probably gets waived because of the numbers game. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he put it together and becomes a 20/20 20/15 solid 3rd liner playing with some offensive talent on a team that gives him the opportunity

I’ve been saying this for months. But the naysayers just want to stick him in Hartford because there’s not a roster spot available. He can walk into a 3rd line role right now...
Odds are this is our big kid 3C for the future ( next 5 years hopefully) he needs nhl minutes. He doesn’t need to go back to the Wolfpack to score a PPG. That’s not going to be his role on the rangers

keeping strome is arguably going to Indirectly hinder chytil s chance at top 6 mins and Barrons roster spot on 3rd line. Not to mention keeping LaF off the PP. stromes value isn’t going to get any higher then it is now. I get people want to keep him as a safety net in case chytil fails. But if your not going to give minutes/opportunity to the guys and stromes not a long term solution, there’s really no point in keeping him here. Faster we find out what chytil can handle and how Barron progresses, the better off we’ll be in the long run. Rant done
We need to see more of Barron at this level before we can say he can walk into a third line role in this team right now.

He’s not beating out Lafreniere, Panarin or Kreider at LW. He’s not beating out Kakko, Kravtsov, or Goodrow at RW. He’s not beating out Zbad, Strome or Chytil at C.

He’s not even beating out Blais or Rooney on our 4th line. Especially with what Rooney brings on the PK.

People advocating he starts in the AHL want him there playing 20min a night as our 1C versus a 4th line role here on random nights.

Ideally, Chytil takes off. We move Strome. We bring up Barron. Without the first two scenarios happening, it makes no sense starting Barron unless Rooney or Blais play horrific hockey or there’s an injury in camp/preseason.

I love what I saw from Barron late in the season last year. But things need to happen in order for him to get an ideal role.

This is what good depth looks like. It sucks. But it’s also a damn good problem to have.

Let's also not forget Barron played the same, what 3 teams all season last year? He played well but it's really hard to gauge much from that. Unless he blows the doors off at training camp, I really woulnd't be too upset for him to play another month or two down there vs other competition around the league.

Dallas Stars offered a 1st round pick and Jason Robertson for Kreider. Edge reported that here a few months ago.

this pains me if true. Tough to gauge but at the time I remember hoping for that package

at the same time who knew Laf was coming

Ouch my testicles?

This is what Nicki Minaj' cousin's friend probably looks like:

I just don't see it. Theres no chance he turns into a 20 goal scorer. Guys bust, thats the reality of it. The guy is big and strong as an ox but plays like a mouse. Tough to teach aggression, some guys just want it and others don't.

I mean i think we all want that, but where exactly does he get those scoring role minutes?
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-Mika-Gauthier
Kreider-Chytil-Kravtsov
Blais-Goodrow-Reeves/Hunt
Rooney

I’m not saying that’s how it ends up. But that’s how I’d open up camp. See where that goes.

I think goodrow starts in the top 9. I also think kratsov starts a little higher.

How do you determine he is a bust? He has produced at every level. He had the shortest leash for some odd f***ing reason with dumb Quinn while others had an undeserving longer leash. But in his limited time he managed 5 points in 30 GP. Again, keep in mind there were games where he had less than 7 minutes of ice time. He hit at least 3 posts that if they bounce differently he has 3 more goals. The kid has a really good shot. If those go in he is at a 0.16 G/GP pace. That would be good for 13 goals over 82. And if you actually let the kid have a shot with some more minutes while enduring the growing pains, he could net 20 goals. He may not be the best defensive forward but we also employ Ryan Strome.

And I just don’t understand this nonsense about him playing like a mouse. He had 56 hits in 30 games. AGAIN, with limited ice time. That number would be higher. He constantly drives towards the net and is always around the net mouth. He is not afraid of the dirty areas. I just dont know where this narrative comes from.

Goodrow played top 9 minutes for a Championship team.

He isn't playing on the 4th line here.
If Panarin and Strome stay together (which seems the most likely scenario), I feel like he would be the best complimentary player on that line. That means that either Kakko or Kravtsov will play on the 3rd line, but Chytil and Kreider are not that bad so as long as they get enough ice that shouldn't be a huge issue.

Maybe. If it plays out that way because it works then cool. I just hope its not a combo that Gallant tries to force into being a thing. That would be a very Quinn maneuver.
