Judging any young forward and moving on from them based on Quinn's years is going to haunt us starting with a 20-40-60 Selke nomination season from Brett Howden

The 25 games played absolutely makes a difference because Shesterkin has played twice as many NHL games as Sorokin and has a better save percentage in a larger sample size. And the fact that Shesterkin played behind the Rangers defense and Sorokin played behind the best defensive system in the league

I dont agree with that. 22 or 47 is a pretty small same size no matter how you look at it. Getting 4 mill a year is a pretty good deal for that sample size let alone 5.66.

Chytil had one less ES point than Strome in 250 less minutes getting two snakebitten rookies as his major linemates instead of the best winger in the world and he had 5 less ES points than Zibanejad despite, again, getting 230 minutes less and Zibanejad having access to the 2nd and 3rd best wingers on the team.

"he squandered opportunities" my balls.

Might be more of an indictment of Strome and Zibanejad?

Sorokin plays in a Trotz system and was a 1b goalie.

Their situations aren't the same and why are we going to ignore 2020? 25 games is more than double what Sorokin has played in this league.

Double doesn't mean much in a small sample size. If we want to add playoffs its a 19 game difference between the two 48 to 29. Thats hardly worth the 10 million difference.

I think long-term you're right. From my perspective I would prefer Barron get another 40+ games in the AHL as the 1C playing all situations there.

I've posted this before but this is what I would LIKE to see:

Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kravtsov
Panarin-Chytil-Blais
Kreider-Goodrow-Kaako
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

First injury call-up is Barron

Trade Strome

pretty solid. I’m guessing we lose Gauthier to waivers for nothing, which blows. But he’s prob not getting a top 9 look here.
I also think Richards has a shot to be an everyday 4th liner as well.
Camp gonna be super important/competitive If Gallant is true to his word and best guys play no matter what

Its a combination of defense and overall system as stated. We were shut out 4 times in 8 games against the Islanders last year and had 1 goal in one other game. Overall we had 12 total goals. Obviously the goalie is the last line of defense and having a great one (Hank) can carry a team but there were some games last year against the Isles where we did not compete or come close to scoring. FYI also do not think Sorokin played many games last year vs Rangers either.

Its important to keep in mind that Zibaenjad was basically Howden for half the season.

Strome isn't all he's cracked up to be by some though. The "one and done" offense label that has been slapped on Chytil applies more to Strome, who leans way heavier towards generating off the rush than Chytil does (who is almost evenly split.)

Holy smokes. Parayko certainly gave up over $15M+ on that deal.

Last year
Sorokin has a 2.17 and a .918 save %
Shesterkin 2.62 and a .916 save %

What worse stats?

Does the 25 games played make that much of a difference for you?

I like Shesterkin and still feel he should of been in the same 4 mill range.
Did Shesterkin's first season not happen?

If were giving him close to 6 million per, it should have gotten us more than just one UFA year.
I don't disagree at all, I think it should've been 2 UFA years for the AAV he got, but I don't think Shesterkin's deal is an L for Drury because of Sorokin's deal.

Shesterkin is being committed to as the #1 guy, Sorokin has half the body of NHL work and is a platoon goalie. It is what it is. Maybe we would've gotten Shesty for slightly less if Sorokin had signed first but I feel like Shesterkin was always going to get more considering his role on the Rangers, his extra experience and his contract buying out a UFA year.

The fact that their SV% is essentially the same but their goals against average is separated by half a goal tells the story.

Like…forget the stats themselves, Sorokin should be paying the Islanders just for the chance to work with Trotz and his G.C. Totally different situation.

Name a player that played well in the bubble? I can't because everyone sucked including Chytil. Maybe Fox?

No doubt there will be some culling from the herd done by the new management and coaching staff over the next 2 seasons . It's pointless to keep guys that vanish in the playoffs as you need guys that can up their game and physicality a notch in order to win 16 games . Soft players are usually passengers come April -June . Is Chytil a wolverine or a rabbit ? I sure would like to see him arrive in camp 10-15 pounds heavier /stronger ...I think that would prolong his stay in the Big Apple . I still remember him going in on Rask and scoring .....I would love to see more of that from him and Kreider this season under Gallant . LOL....even hungry fox versus wolverine comparison would work....he'll never be a wolverine!

The biggest issue with the shesterkin contract is it being up for renewal at age 29-30 right in his prime as a goalie and coming off 5.56. He’ll want a huge raise and it puts us in a terrible yet familiar spot because we did the same thing to ourselves with the Hank contracts.

its almost like igor and his agent know this secret too and wanted the contract that length for this very reason

Guys… exciting news!

NHL Network predicts Adam Fox may break out this year. Maybe he’ll finally be cement himself as an NHLer!

Is it just me or is embarrassing for the league’s official outlet to be predicting the reigning Norris winner as a breakout candidate. Where’s he breaking out of? The NHL into the HHoF? Where do you go from Norris?
