seattle is in a tight bind themselves 4k of cap space and only 21 players and need to move a player just to get 22 players.
Wonder if Bjorkstrand might be a target? Very good forchecker, 20 goal scorer and came up through the CBJ org?????

Is Columbus trying to compete or ride out another bad season? They could make an early deadline type trade if they want to try and be good.

Before the incident Waddell said he wanted to compete, so who knows. There are a lot of kids on the roster who could be on the verge of popping off. It's a delicate balance, you don't wanna overload the roster and block the kids off... But if they aren't ready you wanna have some veteran pieces to insolate them but aren't long term roadblocks on the kids development.

The plan even prior to the death of Johnny Guadreau was to add a veteran and that was JVR.

Just speculating but I am assuming he wants the Team to take a step and not have all the pressure on guys like Fantilli to be the leading scorer. Because the 2 leading scorers are Marchenko and Jenner, both only 20 goal scorers that were on Johnny's line. Obviously there is no replacing Johnny but maybe they can spread it out by committee.

That makes teams like Seattle, Vegas and etc. with possible trades.

Again this is speculation, because GMDW hasn't shared anything other than he is searching for another forward.

I don't know anything about Seattle's situation or if this is even feasible, but I would love to right that wrong. We miss Olly bad.

They only have $4k in cap space and 21 players on the roster. So a thought and he isn't playing in their top 6.

They can trade to get to cap limit. 2 for one bigger contract my guess along with possibly pick(s) depending on who. If want to play it conservative might able to find free agent who put them over cap but might be wise to not be long term but 1-2 year contract and still have to send at least one player down to AHL team. Tough situation for them going forward with what has happened.

Isnt the signing bonus still on the teams overall cap hit? That was paid earlier in the summer, so I'm not sure why that would be removed.

makes no sense to move a guy who's still under contract for a few more years instead of someone who's on an expiring one just to replace his roster spot with bottom of the forward depth chart.

Columbus needs to win as many games as they can. That will certainly be more challenging under the current circumstances, however, I'm not keen on the phrase "ride out another bad season". Not because you're saying it but what it implies. This team has young talent that has some NHL time already. It absolutely needs to grow and develop and start to win more games. They may end up near the bottom but I think GMDW wants to try to win as many as possible and not just add players to fill roster spots. I think they have a purpose and losing begets losing just like winning begets winning. They won't win them all and I'm not a fool to think they are a playoff team but if we (CBJ fans and pundits) continue to say "they have a great prospect pool and young NHL core), then we don't want that core losing on a regular basis. compete every game and win more than last year. Adding veteran leadership that can still play at some level or in some specific situation has been a drive. Adding more talent is the goal so just a contract isn't likely to be the case unless it's an other serious asset coming back. That's my thought anyway...

Not sure if anyone's asked yet; but just out of curiosity what kind of interest would Columbus have in a reunion with Brandon Saad?
The Blues do have a logjam at the moment.

I can't see him adding anything more than what we have at this point...

I'm not opposed to adding Saad, but the acquisition cost would have to be low.

The league apparently expects them to get to the floor on a reasonable timeframe.

Additionally, they need a buffer in order to enable them to move players if they end up as sellers at the TDL.

Huberdeau wants to go to a playoff team, no?

No playoff teams want him.

It's actually a pretty compelling trade proposal because they might be the only team I could see that has a reasonable argument to take Huberdeau without Calgary making significant cap considerations.

They have a young up-and-coming team with a lot of cap flexibility. Huberdeau is still a big name star, which could excite their fans. His signing bonus may have already been paid, so his base salary is low for this year. If he doesn't bounce back, they are one of the few teams in a position to comfortably deal with him being overpaid. If he bounces back, they have a superstar.

If you're Huberdeau, would you rather stay in Calgary or play in the USA, which most players (even Canadians) seem to prefer? Even consider aspects like travel. If you look at both Columbus and Calgary, you can argue that Columbus may even be better faster than Calgary. Because while Calgary has better established players, Columbus has picked a handful of really good young players near the top of the draft who are close to contributing as stars.

The point is, if a Huberdeau to Columbus deal was on the table, it isn't like he would have any other option other than staying in Calgary. From my POV, Columbus looks more ideal than Calgary for most players.

Something around Merzlinkins for Huberdeau, assuming Merzlinkins doesn't have Calgary on his 10 team list and/or would waive to go to Calgary. Pure cap trade.
