He looked more tentative than slow IMO. He was in position to make some hits, but it looked like he was more worried about taking himself out of position. Players like him have to play aggressive.

I admit I haven't been watching a ton of him, but from what I saw, he seemed pretty slow. Hopefully he can change that though. It would be nice to have a guy like him in the lineup that isn't in the twilight of his career.

I really think that if he is comfortable, his skating will be fine. He is faster than Asham, that's for sure. Although that isn't a glowing report.

He is a big body with good hands. but God Forbid he ever fights he is only a Frankenstein then,..Schony loves the kid good enough for me.

If that was the case, wouldn't we all be clamoring for Laraque?

Sarcasm.

Mashinter looked like a slug out there. People are going to bat for him because he can drop the gloves. When thats your redeeming factor, you deserve even less leeway as a player.

who fields the softer of the 2 lineups...Torts or AV...this was my fear of having AV as our coach...all of his Nucks teams were soft.

Do you think the 11-12 team was soft?

They were as tough as they come, and didnt even have a heavyweight, unless you count the embarrassing acquisition of John Scott.

no, i loved that team...the 2012 team was soft and the 2013 team will be even softer. They have gritty guys as stated previously but when compared to other teams in the East...we are as soft as they come.

Remember the last team that punched their way to a cup?

No? Me neither, seeing as I was born after 1975.

Once again for the 122213466565658 time no one asked for a goon. People want more physical bigger players my god I am really getting close to just leaving this board

You had me at "John Scott Breakaway", LIRL before it started. It's like he had McDonald's during intermission. No offense if you're reading this, Mr. Scott.

Eh, you didn't ask for a goon, I actually agree with your stance. However, several people won't leave it alone and are just as dramatic towards people who don't think we need a "goon" as well. It's like a HS classroom. I've thought about pulling the plug on several occasions but honestly the overreactions to the ups and downs of a season bring me great joy.

Now all we need on this page is for
Kershaw to advocate trading McIlrath for Kevin Hayes as he did on the trade forum. Some of the old school posters from Rivals and the HF early days need to come back. Things are starting to nosedive around here.

the game of hockey is changing, as are the fans. Deal with it.

Just ignore it Dagoon. It's like the Gulf of Tonkin. You'll never make sense of what these folks want....I'm not even sure they really know what they want.

We know what we want. More physical players that can actually play a two way game. Help wear the opponent down. Help win a tough play off series. Hard to find and/or develop but essential to winning a championship.

This is just one of those "The sky is green" arguments.

I don't think you can find a single poster who has written that they don't want skilled, big physical players.

A quick read through the thread will display some that do want guys who fight and win at fights. Some of us look at that as a non-factor.

I think it definitely is a factor in regular season play
Especially with some of our local rivals
Come playoffs - fighting is not so much of a factor - if it is one at all...there are barely ever fights in the playoffs that tip the series one way or the other
But fighting ones way into the playoffs is of course one way of getting there in the first place
Hardly saying it is the only way - but it is a way
Toughness is good
Together with speed, skill, defense, special teams and goaltending
Only tough players will not a champion make
Penalties are not advisable - especially in the playoffs
