I love hockey. You find the guys that think like this and exploit them.

Meanwhile...look at the goalies for the two Stanley Cup Favorites. Convenient the playoff narrative is forgotten this time.

Hart’s already had two clunker of seasons in his career to this point. One of them he was the worst goalie in the entire league analytically.

That’s not taking a shot at him it’s just the nature of the position. There really aren’t many models of relative consistency when looking at the position. Lundqvist might be really the only one in the salary cap/analytic era.

There hasn’t been a goalie as impactful from year to year as top tier NFL QB’s have been over that time. You’re talking guys like Manning, Brady, Rodgers, now Mahommes, etc. guys who are perennial MVP winners/candidates on teams who are towards the top of the league standings every year.

If anything, I'm thinking the tandem system is the way to go anymore. Better to get through the regular season and less pressure to pull the "starter" if he doesn't have it in the playoffs.
Had Boston run their tandem in the playoffs like they did during the regular season, I'm convinced they'd be in the Final over Florida.

There are unicorns like Vasilevskiy, but the nature of the position has changed dramatically in recent years.

I support trading Hart as long as you get a good offer for him.

Goalie is an unpredictable position. I don't think the Flyers are in a place where committing a huge long-term cap hit to keep Carter Hart in net, instead of using Hart to acquire prime assets that could advance the rebuild, is the best plan.

It's possible you end up regretting trading Hart, but if I get the right return I'll take my chances with a combination of Ersson, Kolosov, and some cheaper veterans.

The funny thing is the Flyers have had guys come in over the decades & have good seasons. Seasons where they were apart making the Flyers a relative success. They just haven’t had a single individual come in & have a like 5-10 year or whatever. But those guys are essentially hard to find in todays league/goalie environment.

In Hart’s case he’s been largely average in his time here. But he was hyped up coming in to it so it’s similar to Provorov where there’s just some that don’t want to come off that original impression.

The cheap years of Hart’s contract are coming to an end & the team stinks without a lot of hope for the foreseeable future. So there really shouldn’t be this great fear of potentially trading him.

I know you know this but he was THE worst goalie in the NHL a couple of years ago. Now the typical fan just blames that on the team being shitty and doesn't recognize or doesn't want to acknowledge that Hart was the main culprit.

The idea that the guy is untouchable is beyond me. The idea that a "proper rebuild" is done from the net out is moronic. The idea that even if that was true that Carter Hart (given what he's done in the NHL) is the one to do it with is even crazier.

He was terrible in the Covid season, but it was also the Covid season and it sounds like he completely lost focus as a 22 year old kid spending most of his days alone in his room. I don't see that happening again.

But I'm fine with trading him. That's definitely better than giving him 8 x $7m or whatever.

We agree on something.
