"Build around a goalie" is so easily, verifiably incorrect. People just love to repeat lines like that to sound smart.
People legitimately have the wrong perception that it’s true, & nothing will change their minds.

Sort of like how people repeat that Torts has a short shelf life, when all but one of his stints was long.

Even with Vasilevskiy in Tampa. They obviously made a relatively considerable investment in him with using the #19 overall pick on him in 2012. But they had Stamkos (2008 draft) & Hedman (2009 draft) already in the fold. They drafted Kucherov in 2011 & then Point in 2014. So that’s a seven year stretch, the two oldest are future HoF players too. So their core essentially came up together.

The Flyers don’t have those type of talents on their current roster or prospect pool & Hart will be 25 at the start of next year.

LITERALLY no brain. None. He’s an AI.

Ask him about King Nothing. Will never forego an opportunity to post aftermath pics of this goal. Just too good.

A better package from a playoff team — for a few months of UFA impending DeAngelo, off a horrible year on a still horrible team — than picks ~ #40, 71, 101, after a career year artificially inflated by the Canes, from a bottom feeder.

They’d move him tomorrow for just the 4th rounder.

That's the exception though. Usually you need to spend years building a team around an elite goalie like Kuemper, Murray, Crawford, or Binnington to have a shot.
How quickly people forget about our very own Micheal Leighton

Shrewd, savvy teams take advantage of archaic philosophies. Then there's the Flyers

Thing is,pigs could sprout wings and fly too.

I almost forget that the year the Caps finally won was with a past his best Holtby, who didn't even start the playoffs as their #1 guy.

Another good reason not to give Hart an 8-year extension at age 26 - Holtby was already fading in his late 20s and was out of the league at age 32.

Injuries piled up on him. But that also mean it can’t still happen of course.

100. Goalie aging curves are brutal outside of the best of the best.
