It’s embarrassing that people like this, DiMarco, Baskow, Meltzer, O’Connor, and all the rest of the Flyers Twitter regulars are a part of this fanbase. It just goes to show that the people with at least average hockey knowledge and can look at the team without heavily orange tinted glasses are in the extreme minority.

People are still swearing that the team is actually looking good, Torts is doing a great job, culture/effort was the problem but is now fixed, and guys like Tippett/Cates/York are impressive core pieces. Delusional bullshit.

They don’t realize we’re in another fluke period like at the start of the year and clearly didn’t learn their lessons. Then the team will cool off and start losing again and suddenly the tune will change again. Zero foresight, zero big picture thinking.

They're doing the thing where 2 points in 36 games = lock down defender. Are his defensive metrics better? Yes! His offensive metrics are also a career worst and the worst on the team. He's being used as a 4/5. Relative metrics are just that, and when guys like DeAngelo and Provorov are getting slaughtered, it can make numbers skewed sometimes. You have Seeler as the 2nd best D in the NHL in relxGA/60, and there's no way that just isn't a fluky sample. But defensive stats are also a lot more volatile than offensive: go browse the leaders for relxGF and relxGA and see which corresponds to the top players and which corresponds mostly to depth guys.

If you came into this season proclaiming Risto the best offensive D on the team, you're going to use scraps of data to spin 2 points as positively as you can. Cernak! Charlie knows the truth stretching in what he's saying, but he likes being Lady Justice against the mouth-frothers.
